Apple TV+ has released the trailer for its new historical thriller series, Chief of War. It’s a bold, emotional story set in late 1700s Hawaiʻi. Jason Momoa, known for playing Aquaman, stars in the lead role. The show highlights the tough and heroic fight to unite the Hawaiian Islands, showing a rare view from native Hawaiians. It sheds light on a part of history often ignored by mainstream media.

Chief of War focuses on a Hawaiian warrior chief working hard to bring warring tribes together. His goal is to protect his people from outside colonizers. At the center is Kamehameha the Great, played by newcomer Kaina Makua. His rise to power is a key moment in Polynesian history. The cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Cliff Curtis, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Moses Goods, Siua Ikaleʻo, and others. Their performances add real depth and cultural truth to the story.

The series is a project close to the hearts of Jason Momoa and Thomas Paʻa Sibbett. Both have strong family roots in Hawaiʻi. They want to tell this story from a native Hawaiian view. That makes Chief of War more than a war drama; it’s about reclaiming history and heritage. Doug Jung wrote most of the scripts and is the showrunner. Justin Chon, a well-known filmmaker, directs some episodes. With beautiful visuals, intense action, and strong cultural ties, this series aims to become a major milestone.
