Actor Adivi Sesh gave fans a memorable surprise on Anurag Kashyap’s birthday by unveiling a behind-the-scenes glimpse of him as Inspector Swamy from the upcoming film Dacoit: A Love Story. The filmmaker-actor, known for his unconventional approach to cinema, is seen stepping into a character layered with conflicts of duty and morality, enhanced by his trademark dry wit.

Sharing the first look, Sesh wrote a heartfelt note for Kashyap, praising his wisdom and compassion that elevated the filming experience. “Your wisdom, your brilliance and most importantly, your compassion have made this #DacoIT experience beautiful. Happy birthday, ‘Swamy’!” he wrote, making fans even more curious about Kashyap’s role.

Mrunal Hails Kashyap as the Soul of the Film

Mrunal Thakur, who stars as the female lead opposite Adivi Sesh, added to the excitement by dedicating a birthday message to Kashyap. Posting on Instagram, she called him the "soul of the film" and praised his gravitas and flair that bring immense depth to Inspector Swamy. “Team Dacoit wishes Inspector Swamy a very Happy Birthday. He brings aura and stature to the character like only he can,” her post read.

The film, directed by Shaniel Deo, is scheduled for a worldwide release on December 25, setting up what promises to be a gripping year-end cinematic experience.

Talking about his character, Kashyap described Inspector Swamy as a man torn between responsibility and personal belief. “The conundrum of duty versus dharma, and to go about doing his job with a dry sense of humour is fantastic,” he said. The role is being shot in both Hindi and Telugu, a dual-language approach that expands the film’s appeal across audiences.

Earlier in February, Adivi Sesh had introduced Kashyap’s character in a teaser note where Swamy is seen on Deeksha (a ritual practice of discipline). At that time, Sesh had hinted at the strength of Kashyap’s role with a line that roughly translated to, “The police who is on Deeksha says he will catch me… but maybe only God himself would need to come down to catch me.”

The Long Journey to Dacoit

Interestingly, Dacoit: A Love Story had seen some shifts during its production. Initially, actress Shruti Haasan was expected to play the female lead, but she walked away from the project due to scheduling conflicts and different working styles. Adivi Sesh later clarified that her exit was amicable, as she was also busy with her role in Coolie. The film eventually roped in Mrunal Thakur, who, along with Kashyap, brings added weight to the project.
