Telugu cinema is set to soar to new heights with A Masterpiece, an ambitious superhero film directed by Poorvaj. Following his acclaimed works like Shukra and Matarani Mounamidi, Poorvaj’s latest venture blends mythology with modern superhero flair, promising a cinematic experience like no other. Starring Arvind Krishna as the superhero, Manish Gilada as the supervillain, and Jyothi Poorvaj in a pivotal role, alongside Ashu Reddy, the film is in its final shooting phase. At a recent on-location press meet, the team shared insights into the project’s grand vision, aiming for a Maha Shivaratri release.

Mythology Meets Modernity

Director Poorvaj revealed the film’s unique narrative, which weaves ancient Indian epics into a contemporary superhero saga. Drawing inspiration from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, the story connects different yugas (eras). In Treta Yuga, Sumantara, a minister under King Dasharatha, receives a divine boon during Lord Rama’s exile, laying the foundation for the superhero’s origin. The supervillain, inspired by the mythological figure Hiranyakashipu from Dwapara Yuga, clashes with the hero in Kaliyuga. “This fresh narrative blends our rich cultural heritage with a new-age superhero aesthetic,” Poorvaj shared, emphasizing the stellar performances of Arvind Krishna and Manish Gilada.

A Grand Climax in the Making

The film’s climax, currently being shot, promises to be a visual spectacle. Executive Producer Yogi Posani highlighted the team’s commitment to top-tier VFX, stating, “We invited the media to witness the scale of our climax shoot. No compromises have been made on quality.” The incorporation of Lord Shiva’s elements ties into the film’s spiritual undertones, aligning with the planned Maha Shivaratri release. The production, backed by Srikanth Kandregula, Manish Gilada, and Prajay Kamat, utilizes cutting-edge technology, with Merge XR and Thunder Studios ensuring Hollywood-level post-production.

Challenges and Triumphs

Lead actor Arvind Krishna expressed gratitude to Poorvaj for his patience during production delays caused by injuries and scheduling conflicts. “Great achievements come with challenges,” he noted, praising the team’s resilience. He lauded Manish Gilada’s dual role as a producer and supervillain, calling him a “superhero” behind the scenes. Jyothi Poorvaj, who also serves as a costume designer, described her role as one of the most fulfilling in her career, promising audiences a character with surprising depth.

A Vision for Telugu Cinema

Producer Srikanth Kandregula, inspired by the Malayalam superhero film Minnal Murali, envisioned A Masterpiece as a bold step for Telugu cinema. “We’re using technology even Hollywood hasn’t fully explored,” he claimed, pointing to the film’s massive sets and innovative VFX. Manish Gilada echoed this sentiment, noting that the 14-month journey since the teaser release has culminated in a climactic song shoot, with the film nearing completion.

With a talented ensemble including Sneha Gupta, Archana Ananth, and Jayaprakash, and a technical crew featuring cinematographers Jagadeesh Bommisetty and Shivarama Charan, editors Poorvaj and Manoj B, and music composers Aashirvaad and Suman Jeevaratnam, A Masterpiece is poised to redefine Telugu cinema.
