Thammudu Review: Nithiin’s Action Drama Misses Emotional Depth

The Thammudu Story

At a very young age, Jai (Nithiin) separates from his sister Jhansi (Laya). Ten years later, she finds herself engrossed in a well-known case and required to provide a report to the government in accordance with a bomb explosion. The fundamental plot of Thammudu is how her brother arrives and saves her when goons attack her while she is on vacation with her family.

Thammudu Assessment

Sreeram Venu, who most recently produced Vakeel Saab with Pawan Kalyan, has been working on Thammudu for the past three years. He gave his forest thriller a brother-sister perspective. The novel begins on a bright note with the brother-sister tale.

The plot really gets intriguing as soon soon as it moves to the woods. However, excessive activity without direction greatly diminishes the enjoyment. The film earned an A rating from the censors for its non-stop activity.

As the hero appears to have responses for the thousands of goons that are coming at him over and over again, one begins to sense how much more action is headed our way. The emotional aspect is ruined halfway through, and logic is thrown out the window.

In order to film the movie in authentic settings, a lot of money has been invested. Although the excitement is respectable, there are plenty of them. Just as you believe the movie is over, another action scene breaks out in the climax.

The title alone indicates that Thammudu is a brother-sister tale, but the plot makes little use of it. This is a feature that director Sreeram Venu might have improved upon, but he instead focuses on action.

Nithiin seems frail, rarely pays attention to the topic at hand, and keeps engaging in activity. The audience loses interest because he appears exhausted in a number of scenes. The plot and emotions are well-balanced in the first half. However, there is no use for the movie once the second half begins. The only things being revealed one after the other are chase sequences and undesirable personalities.

In every one of his interviews, director Sreeram Venu claimed that the movie is driven by its five compelling characters. However, the so-called figures have little effect. Their presence is merely for the sake of it; they are weak. The character of Sapthami Gowda makes some sense in the scenario, but after a time, it's too much.

As for the acting, Nithiin does his best to rescue the movie, but he is also hampered by a subpar script. Although the Sye star shines in the action scenes, he falls short in terms of emotion. Varsha Bollama has a substantial part and is excellent in the picture. She is well-integrated into the story and performs a lot of activity.

Swasika is portrayed as Gutti and performs a bad part, yet her personality is underdeveloped and contributes little to the environment. Although Laya returns well after a lengthy absence and lands a significant role, her character doesn't have much to do in the movie's middle chapters.

The main antagonist is played by Saurabh Sachdeva in his Telugu debut. His portrayal of a crazy character is fun to see, and everything he does on television makes sense. Despite the well-thought-out action moments, the second half's cheesy visual effects ruin the stunts.

The music was written by Ajaneesh Loknath, and the background music is fantastic. The production values are excellent, and the raw camera technique effectively displays every dollar spent.

The foundation of Thammudu's narrative was sound, and the plot was fantastic. If it had been told in less than two hours, it might have been a thrilling suspense story. However, the filmmakers prioritize commercial considerations once more and include excessive action, which makes the audience lose interest and causes the film to fail miserably.

With films like Game Changer and Thammudu failing consecutively, producer Dil Raju has to rethink his script choices since Nithiin is still looking to make a comeback.

The Thammudu Verdict

Overall, Thammudu is an extreme action drama with little direction. It has continuous action that makes no sense. Despite the excellent performances of the ensemble cast, Sreeram Venu's direction is lacking, making this movie a dull watch this weekend.
