Param Sundari, starring Janhvi Kapoor and Sidharth Malhotra, promises a soulful romantic comedy set amid the serene landscapes of Kerala. Yet, despite the stunning visuals and a nostalgic soundtrack, the film falls flat, lacking the spark and chemistry essential to engage audiences fully in a love story.

Plot and Premise: A Tech-Driven Tale of Romance

The film follows Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a wealthy entrepreneur skeptical about love, who experiments with a matchmaking app called Soulmates. The app leads him to Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a spirited homestay owner in Cochin. The narrative weaves a cross-cultural romance between the modern, tech-savvy north Indian and the traditional, warm-hearted Malayali girl. However, the story feels overly familiar and predictable, filled with romantic comedy tropes that don't break new ground or surprise the viewer.

Performances: Janhvi Shines Amidst Flat Chemistry

Janhvi Kapoor delivers a sincere performance, effortlessly bringing Sundari’s zest and cultural authenticity to life. She aces the challenging role of a character rooted deeply in Kerala’s traditions, often carrying scenes on her own. On the other hand, Sidharth Malhotra's portrayal of Param lacks nuance and charisma, failing to create believable romantic tension between the leads. Their interactions often feel mechanical and uninspired, which undermines the film’s emotional core.

Highlights: Cinematography and Music

One of the film's standout features is its authentic depiction of Kerala’s natural beauty. Shot without heavy visual effects, the cinematography immerses viewers in lush landscapes and vibrant festivities, especially during the Onam sequences. The music by Sachin-Jigar, particularly the track Pardesiya, evokes nostalgia and complements the film's mood, although the soundtrack as a whole barely elevates the overall experience.

Weaknesses: Predictability and Pacing Issues

The screenplay struggles with pacing, especially in the second half. The film meanders with extended scenes and jokes that don't land, making the narrative drag. The plot leans heavily on clichés, including the usual cultural misunderstandings and conventional romantic conflicts. Supporting characters, while occasionally amusing, do little to rescue the film from its formulaic structure.

A Polite Handshake, Not a Sweeping Romance

Param Sundari aims for the warmth and humor of classic romantic comedies but ultimately fails to captivate. Despite the lovely Kerala setting and Janhvi Kapoor’s committed performance, the weak chemistry and predictable storyline prevent the film from making a lasting impression. For audiences seeking a fresh, heartfelt rom-com, this film might feel more like a pleasant but forgettable meeting than a romance to remember.
