Review of the movie Metro In Dino
Cast: Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Sheikh, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher
Anurag Basu, Director
Rating: 3.5 stars

Over the years, one of my favorite things to ask actors has been: Was the movie's script given to you by Anurag Basu? The response is always the safe one, according to the record: "He has a unique style of working." Not for publication... "We go with dada's vision; the script is in his head."

The plot and the writing

A perfect illustration of what goes through Anurag's mind is Metro In Dino. frames illuminated with vibrant colors, mayhem that eventually comes together nicely, and music that complements each scene. His 2017 movie, Jagga Jasoos, was a musical experiment in a market already dominated by song and dance, and it didn't exactly succeed at the box office. Metro In this respect, Dino may be Anurag's most daring film to date since the music here is not just a supplement to the narrative; it is the narrative itself. One can only speculate about how this ambitious vision came together, as much of the speech is sung.

Love, in its various forms and at different ages, serves as the common thread that ties the movie together as an anthology. Falling in love with someone else, repeatedly falling in love with the same individual (that's marriage, as one wag puts it)... The story is difficult to summarize. Maybe that's the idea. One figure rediscovers his love for his wife, another rekindles an old flame, while a third pair struggles with the question of whether to choose life or passion.

Basu is the author of both the screenplay and the story, and he has a sort of enchantment that he brings to the cinema. He is one of the most groundbreaking filmmakers of our day, having addressed a wide range of topics in a 162-minute film, including identity crises, loneliness, infidelity (which Pankaj Tripathi's character hilariously pronounces as "infertility"), and loss.

It takes a while for the first half to get into a groove since this is your first encounter with this cast of characters. However, the excellent casting greatly contributes to making the ride a pleasant one once you get comfortable.

The performances

Without a doubt, Pankaj Tripathi is the best of the bunch. In Basu's Ludo, his effortless comedic timing had also produced excellent results, and here, he plays the philandering, insecure spouse, chasing after his wife (Konkona Sen Sharma), who has caught him in the act. Koko and Pankaj make a great pair. For the sheer ingenuity behind how it unfolds, my second favorite is the one by Anupam Kher and Neena Gupta. Ali Fazal and Fatima Sana Shaikh are relatable as the couple attempting to overcome temptation and challenges in their relationship. Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan make a nice pair; Aditya nails his role, and Sara's performance is perfect for the

The second half is when Metro In Dino begins to get a little mixed up with its numerous subplots. Particularly near the conclusion, when it becomes monotonous and you start to feel restless. The melodrama also makes its way in here, but it's mostly redeemed by the endearing way the movie ends.

The tunes

The movie's hero is now the music. It's a shame that it hasn't reached the top of the charts prior to the film's release, since it really captivates you and keeps you in your seat. Pritam's compositions are worthy of praise, while lyricists Sandeep Srivastava, Mayur Puri, Anurag Sharma, Qaisar Ul Jafri, Neelesh Mishra, and Momin Khan Momin craft some beautiful tunes.

This spiritual sequel to Life... is fundamentally about Similar to the contemporary love that it celebrates, A Metro (2007) is a chaotic, musical, and very human work. Although it's not always flawless, it's genuine and full of vitality. If you're prepared to give in to Basu's perspective, you'll leave with a renewed faith in the numerous forms and opportunities of love, as well as a heart brimming with melody.
