Love Marriage Review: Vikram Prabhu Shines in a Well-Crafted Yet Predictable Family Drama
5 months ago | 5 Views
The love marriage plot is as follows:
At 33, Ramachandran (Vikram Prabhu) is beyond his prime and still wants to be married. Despite his family's contempt for the bride's side for belonging to a lower caste, they ultimately agreed to an alliance. Ramachandran and his family are left with no alternative but to visit the village of the bride, Ambika (Sushmita Bhat), for their engagement, but there is an unexpected turn of events.
Love Marriage Assessment

We learn about the social evolution of marriage before we even see how Ramachandran's tale develops. Marriage has changed from being a romantic union between two people motivated by love to becoming the defining characteristic of a species. It has evolved into a company, a status symbol, a timestamp, a source of pride, a check mark, a norm, and more. In essence, and in the words of the movie, "kalyanam kadhalaku illa, kaalatha ku," which emphasizes that marriage has become time-bound rather than love-bound.
At that point, we meet Ramachandran, a 33-year-old man whose sole goal is to find a steady career. The reason we see him unmarried in his 30s is not that he is any less, but that he has turned down every potential woman in his prime, so that he is now content to wed anyone. His family is also disappointed that he has turned down all the alliances within their caste that they are now forced to turn to and adapt to marrying a bride from a lower caste. Is it a subtle commentary on the fact that men from the upper caste still wield a privilege over women from lower castes, or that they are the least sought-after women in society? As we see Ramachandran, his parents, his pregnant sister, and a few of his excessively domineering family members join him at the bride's home, that is a subject for a different day. A family drama that is adapted to an Indian family, where a minor inconvenience can lead to a major dispute, is what follows. And the same is true for Love Marriage, where, despite the fact that it is an arranged marriage, the families are not in sync.

Love Marriage is a remake of the Telugu film Ashoka Vanamlo Arjuna Kalyanam that maintains the same core and doesn't deviate much. However, there isn't much that is unique or energizing. Ramachandra and Ambika are married in an arranged marriage that is anticipated by the elderly, but the audience for their scenes believes that it is a hoax. Ambika has other intentions, of course, but the movie needs to have a strong foundation in order for it to work in its favor. You lose interest in the marriage occurring when Ambika is portrayed as reserved and uninterested. Thus, you had always assumed that the interval block would follow the twist.
The title alone is a wordplay on the tale of two families arranging a marriage for their respective wards. Love marriages rarely focus on the needs of the parties involved and frequently exaggerate minor annoyances in order to further the plot of each scene. For instance, a relative who is always making fun of the bride's family and never fails to cause a stir becomes a recurring theme and eventually becomes excessive.
However, Love Marriage has some redeeming qualities as well. When the movie begins to discuss the love in marriage, it somewhat wants to stay faithful to its source material, but it also falls into typical commercial cinema, which depends on stale tropes like a fight scene at a market and a song break.
Verdict on Love Marriage
Love Marriage is a fair narrative overall, but it stands out for its excellent execution and strong performances. While it uses real material and is made honestly, it fails to provide anything beyond that. Yes, you can watch it with your family, feel upbeat, and maybe even leave with a grin. However, it undoubtedly would have been able to investigate far more if it had delved into the complexities that a local roots could have provided.
