Rating: ★★★★
The term makes sense as it refers to police informants in the West, and the main character in the Israeli show Magpie was one. The main character in the well-known show Kankhajura is strangely transformed into a millipede, albeit a hazardous one, in the Hindi version. The metaphor is still valid here. Ashu is both tiny and unimportant, but also dangerous. This tale of love, need for acceptance, and violent rage is skillfully narrated, but the performance is far superior. The performances will amaze you if the script keeps you captivated. In the middle of it all is the amazing Roshan Mathew, who once again demonstrates to the audience why he is among the top young performers in the nation.
The story
After 14 years in prison, Ashu (Roshan), a young man from Goa, is freed in the tale of Kankhajura. In the meanwhile, his brother Max (Mohit Raina) has built a small construction business on illegal grounds. Despite Ashu's continued attempts to win their approval, Max and his allies treat him like a punching bag. However, Ashu is not the only thing. The local ACP (Heeba Shah) intends to take advantage of the soft-spoken, stammering man's exceptional talent for manipulation. When Max and his gang push Ashu to the breaking point, he snaps, and then all hell breaks free.

The ways in which Kankhajura astonishes you
Kankhajura is ostensibly a tale about acceptance and the need for acceptance. All of Ashu's actions, whether positive or negative, are motivated by his fixation on being worthy of his sibling. This complicated feeling is well brought out by the script. Without hammering the issue too hard, all the subtleties and intricacies are delivered in a magnificent way. That makes the program more relatable and, perhaps, also more uncomfortable. However, the story covers challenging topics and emotions that we constantly try to suppress, so that uneasiness is to be expected.
The program also handles Ashu's complex schemes and intrigues with great skill. Ashu is a master manipulator who is always two steps ahead of the competition. However, the audience is not left in the dark by the presentation. It takes you inside Ashu's head as he manipulates the people around him, occasionally with the help of sheer luck and other times with the strength of his own courage, in a manner reminiscent of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul. The exciting manner in which those sequences have been presented is one of the main reasons why they are enjoyable.
The Roshan Mathew Show
Roshan Mathew is the sutradhar of it all. This thriller genre, which is on the verge of being overproduced on OTT, is given new life by the performer. His performance, which is already among the finest this year, evokes a wide range of emotions for Ashu, including sympathy, disgust, and rage. The wonder of Roshan's accomplishment is in this. It is rare for the performer, who is known for his youthful appearance, to deal with such a sinister and cunning subject matter. However, he glides through the setup as well as the role with ease. The story and the technical aspects of Kankhajura are sufficient to make it a decent program. Roshan makes it fantastic.
Roshan and Mohit Raina make a wonderful contrast. The performer displays his range as the selfish and gloomy Max, a man who would do anything to achieve his goals, miles away from his Mahadev persona. Mohit Raina is successful in maintaining that single-minded concentration without turning him into the cliche villain. Mahesh Shetty, who plays Max's partner Shardul, and Heeba Shah, who plays the Goa ACP, stand out from the rest of the cast.
The lack of original stories is frequently bemoaned by audiences (and even critics). Remakes are often criticized for being lazy, but Kankhajura is anything but. Additionally, it combines the spirit of Magpie with the soul of Goa and the heart of desi storytelling. This program demonstrates that a remake can be among the finest of the year if done well.
