Jurassic World Rebirth Early Reviews: Critics Praise Visuals, Criticize Shallow Storyline in Scarlett Johansson’s Film

World of the Jurassic One of the most anticipated releases of the year is rebirth. The impending picture has big hopes because it's one of the most popular movie series in the world. The first reviews for the film starring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey are in, but sadly, not all of them are glowing with acclaim!

What are the reviewers saying?

With 98 reviews, the movie has started with a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, a review aggregation website. "This is mostly a collection of recycled story beats, even if there are some mighty new monsters on the prowl," David Rooney of The Hollywood Reporter wrote in his mixed review.

In his piece for The Daily Beast, reviewer Nick Schager noted that the characters are thinly written, saying, "Jurassic World Rebirth is totally devoid of personality, with Johansson stuck playing a thinly sketched covert operative whose self-interest quickly and jarringly gives way to altruism, and the Oscar-winning Ali saddled with a featureless role that's far beneath his talents and mostly consigns him to the background.

What doesn't function

The sluggish plot, which takes time to establish and frequently alludes to the first movie, was highlighted by the majority of reviews. "From the moment everyone reaches the central island, the filmmaking on display is just plain bad," Sidhant Adlakha of Inverse wrote. "Moments of horror, action, and awe are cut together without nearly enough consideration of rhythm or emotional impact."

"The film presents an updated version of the same basic ride that Spielberg provided 32 years earlier, and yet, it hardly feels essential to the series' overall mythology, nor does it signal where the franchise could be headed," Variety's Peter Debruge observed.

Visual effects are lauded

However, the movie's special effects were lauded by everyone. "One of the greatest set pieces this time is a river encounter with a slumbering T-Rex that is awakened to wreak havoc." Crichton's book, which was unfilmable in 1993, provided the inspiration for it. The findings now indicate that it was, since modern technology has caught up to it, and as a major bonus, we now see a fantastic T-Rex cameo. And let's be honest, just like in every Jurassic film, the dinos are the real stars we're here for, and this group is dino-mite (I apologize). "Credit the effects wizards who worked overtime to deliver, and they do," said Deadline's Pete Hammond.

In his article "Jurassic World Rebirth" for We Live Entertainment, Aaron Neuwirth stated, "Jurassic World Rebirth does a fine job of having these mega beasts register as true forces of nature that happen to be contending with tiny humans. The film is judicious about which dinosaurs get a lot of screen time, which includes, for the first time in Jurassic movies, downplaying raptors and only devoting so much time to the most noteworthy mutant that appears later in the story, after a quick introduction at the beginning.

David Koepp penned the script for Jurassic World Rebirth, which Gareth Edwards directed and will be released in theaters on July 2.
