Monsoon Pet Allergies: 6 Expert Tips to Keep Your Furry Friends Comfortable and Happy
6 months ago | 5 Views
Even though we frequently prioritize our own health, our pets silently suffer the negative consequences of higher pollen and allergen levels in the air during the monsoon season, endangering their well-being.
Dr. Bhanu Pratap, a veterinary officer at Sharda University, Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Sinha from Ranjan Pet Clinic, and Nandita Sikka, CCO and head psychologist at Heal Your Paws, offered advice on how to treat allergies in our furry companions in an interview with HT lifestyle.
1. Be mindful of seasonal ailments:
Nandita Sikka warned that "Wet fur, filthy paws, and not enough sunlight can quickly lead to fungal infections and weakened immunity." She recommended frequent grooming and the use of paw balms and tick sprays that are safe for pets in order to prevent skin issues. "Grooming and giving your pets proper baths during the monsoon is your first line of defense against infections," said Dr. Rajeev Ranjan Sinha.
2. Create a warm, secure retreat:
According to Nandita Sikka, "Choose a quiet spot with their blanket, favorite toys, and even a piece of your clothing." Intense thunder and bright lightning can cause stress levels in pets, especially dogs, to skyrocket. Your scent can calm and ground them.
3. Keep an eye on food and drink:
During the rainy season, hunger tends to vary. Give them nutritious, light meals, and think about adding water enhancers or omega-3 supplements.

4. Give indoor play priority:
Although walks may be restricted on rainy days, this does not imply that your pet should be sedentary. Use puzzle toys, switch playthings, and practice new commands to maintain their minds and bodies active.
5. Make use of soothing remedies for nervous pets:
Gentle remedies can be used if your pet exhibits symptoms of monsoon anxiety, such as whining, hiding, restlessness, or aggression. A vet-approved herbal oil, aroma therapy, or natural soothing treats can be beneficial.
6. Shower them with love and give them additional time.
Every one of the three professionals agreed that our presence is the most effective form of treatment. Just doing little things like cuddling, brushing, or sitting next to them may make a big difference. In particular, you are their safe haven during storms.
