Chiropractor’s Neck Crack Leaves Las Vegas Woman with Serious Injury

A woman's life was completely changed by her visit to the chiropractor, and she developed significant health issues as a result. Everyone has witnessed the amazing chiropractor videos where a professional releases pent-up stress in a person's neck or back by cracking their neck or back. At 41, though, it tore the artery that passes through Carissa Klundt's spine.
After the removal of breast implants that she claimed had made her sick, Carissa used to see a chiropractor frequently for back pain, according to People. The catastrophe occurred during one of the visits.
A wise woman from a chiropractic visit was taken to the emergency room.
A replacement took over one of her sessions with the chiropractor in November 2022 and broke her neck. The mother of three felt that something was wrong right away, rather than feeling better. “I knew something was wrong the minute it happened. Even if you do hear a crack when you get an adjustment, I knew something had gone wrong. I had a pain in my neck. When I got home, I felt like I was going to throw up, she told People.

The situation deteriorated over the next few weeks. Carissa was experiencing ‘seeing things and blacking out’. A CAT scan revealed a vertebral artery dissection, or VAD, after her husband recommended she go to the emergency room. A dissection is a rip in one or more tissue layers that make up the vertebral artery, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Vertebral artery dissection may lead to stroke and other potentially fatal consequences in the most extreme circumstances.
'I could've easily died,'
Carissa's life was saved by the hospital trip. She was quickly moved to another hospital's ICU. "They said I could've had a stroke. I would have had a stroke if I hadn't gone to the hospital. I may have died so easily. It was a traumatizing experience for my entire family, "she said.
But the chiropractor's error caused persistent issues. For the first month, she had a hard time and was mostly in bed. "I was worn out, sleeping 17 hours a day. I was in agony all the time and required assistance with my walking, she said.
Her symptoms have not gone away after almost three years, according to People. She used to be active and healthy. However, she will no longer be able to participate in physical activities that she liked. “I’ll never ski again, I’ll never go on a roller coaster. I no longer instruct [fitness] courses. The possibility of it happening again still causes some lingering anxiety. "It's been a long recovery process, but I'm doing alright now," she said.
"My life was essentially stopped. I truly regret visiting the chiropractor. I want people to realize that this is a life-threatening illness and that they should be aware of the symptoms," Carissa said.
