X&Y Director Satya Prakash: “There’s Hardly an Audience Left to Judge Whether a Film Is Good or Bad”

D. Satya Prakash, who is a director, producer, and now actor as well, is concerned about the decline in the Kannada film business, as audiences seldom go to theaters. In contrast to the past, when audiences would evaluate a movie after seeing it, the major problem that filmmakers now encounter is that there is no one to judge whether a film is good or bad. According to Satya, whose film X&Y will be released in theaters on June 26, "By the time you reach the release window and you start wondering why you made the effort and for who, the excitement and energy that you have at the start in the anticipation of entertaining audiences, dwindles."
Satya Prakash, the head of X&Y, stated that premiere show reports are not trusted by audiences
In a promotional interview for the movie, Satya compares a film release to a housewarming. “Let’s say someone has made a single-bedroom house or just a hall and kitchen; he’d still call people in the neighborhood to come and see the fruit of his effort. He does not anticipate that anyone would claim he has constructed a palace. It's all about the happiness and fulfillment that comes from just sharing one's home with others. In the Kannada film business, nobody sets out to create a terrible picture; everyone begins with the aim of creating a decent one. The issue is that you have no one to advise you whether or not it's good or bad, he claims.
Satya says that in the past, a filmmaker could have had clarity about whether or not it worked for them based on audience input, and if it didn't, they would have known what to change. "How do you decide what to do in your next film if there is no impression about your film without an audience? The most direct course of action is for members of the industry to invite their friends and relatives to the closest movie theater to watch the film and engage with other viewers. I dislike premieres for this very reason. "At these special shows, you say the same things about every movie to the same group of people, to the point where people no longer believe your 'report'," he claims.
In the meanwhile, Satya's film X&Y follows an unborn soul's trip on Earth, with the goal of bringing its prospective parents together. However, in the process, it has experiences that make it disillusioned and hesitant to start a life on this planet. Despite the seriousness of the topic, Satya claims to have approached it as a cheerful story. One of the main roles is played by Satya, who chose to do so because he needed a performer who could pull off the part naturally and because of financial constraints (as producer). Among others on the cast, he is joined by Atharva Prakash, Brinda Acharya, and Ayaana.
