Vir Das, a comedian and actor, cherishes his encounter with the late Rishi Kapoor and remembers a funny incident when he overheard the actor arguing with his wife, actress Neetu Kapoor, while on a flight. He acknowledges that Rishi's move to sit with him after rising from his chair took him by surprise.
Reminiscences from Vir
Vir spoke with Sakshi Shivdasani and Naina Bhan on their podcast, Moment of Silence, about his encounter with Rishi Kapoor. He collaborated with Rishi on Namaste London.
Vir remembered his first interaction with Rishi Kapoor, who described him as a "cool guy." According to the comedian, Rishi Kapoor requested his name, and then Rishi Kapoor invited him to shake hands after Vir introduced himself. The encounter made Vir feel like a heroine in one of his movies, with all his "masculine energy draining away," he said with a smile. Later, Rishi Kapoor lauded Vir, calling him a fantastic performer and urging him to vow to keep performing.
Five years later, the comedian met the deceased veteran actor on a flight and overheard Neetu and Rishi arguing over a slice of cake.
From the back of the plane, Vir said, "I'm in the back of a flight, and like in the front of the flight, I hear some chikad chikad happening between a couple in business class, 'You can't eat the cake.' 'I want to eat the cake.' 'You're not allowed to eat the cake. "I want the bloody cake. What the f**k?" the doctor said, "no cake." Following that, Rishi Kapoor rises.
"He's like, 'Arre, Vir,'" he continued. "He comes and sits down next to me, and he tells me this story. He's like you know... and he gave me this list of guys who started with him. At one point, he asks, "Are you going to eat your cake?" Then Rishi Kapoor consumes my cake.
