Vikrant Massey’s Family Bereaved in Ahmedabad Air India Disaster; Indian Cricket Icons Respond to Tragic News

In response to the Air India plane crash outside Ahmedabad airport on Thursday, Indian cricketing legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli extended their sympathies to the families of those hurt in the tragedy.
The Air India flight to London, which had 242 passengers, plummeted in a residential section of Ahmedabad's Meghani Nagar just minutes after takeoff. In addition to 12 crew members, there were 169 Indians, 53 Brits, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.
Kohli expressed his "shock" at the revelation on Instagram. He wrote, "Shocked to heat about the plane crash at Ahmedabad today. Prayers for all those affected and thoughts with their families."
Rohit Sharma, the former captain of India, also went on social media to respond to the troubling information. He stated, "Really sad and disturbing news from Ahmedabad. Prayers for all the lives lost and their families."

The aircraft was commanded by Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal has 8,200 hours of flying experience as an LTC. The official went on to say that the copilot had 1,100 hours of flying experience.
The ATC reported that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which took off from runway 23 in Ahmedabad at 1339 IST, made a Mayday call immediately after takeoff, but did not answer the ATC's calls. Shortly after the takeoff, it landed just outside the airport's perimeter, and images from news stations and social media showed heavy smoke rising from the accident scene.
Former pilot Saurabh Bhatnagar stated that the plane crash was caused by "multiple bird hits." In an interview with the Indian news TV channel New Delhi Television LTD, he remarked, "It looks, prima facie, like a case of multiple bird hits wherein both the engines have lost power." The takeoff was flawless, and the plane began to descend, I think, just short of raising the gear. This may only occur if the engine fails or the aircraft ceases to generate lift. The precise cause will obviously be disclosed by the inquiry.
The most recent reports indicate that the plane heading to Gatwick Airport has no survivors. Gyanendra Singh Malik, the police commissioner of Ahmedabad, told the Associated Press that "some locals would also have died" in the accident.
