The forthcoming sports action drama Phoenix, directed by Anl Arasu, will mark the acting debut of Surya Sethupathi, the son of renowned actor Vijay Sethupathi. Prior to the film's release, Surya discussed his remarkable bodily makeover for the part in an interview with Zoom. The debutant said that he was about 120 kg before beginning work on Phoenix, and that it took him a year and a half to get to the necessary fitness level.

Surya discusses his weight loss in preparation for Phoenix

I was approximately 120 kg before the film began. It took me a year and a half to lose weight. While on my weight loss journey, I learned MMA, which is the foundation of the film, Surya stated.

The voyage was not simple, particularly in the beginning. Surya acknowledged that the first six months were especially hard. The newcomer found it challenging to reduce his intake of oil and sugar, he claimed.

When Surya arrived at his first job

Surya also shared that his casting in Phoenix was almost accidental as a result of a trip to the set of Jawan, where his father played the lead.

"I always had the idea of being an actor, but I wasn't sure how to accomplish it. At that point, during the climax scene of Jawan's shoot, I went to see my father on the sets. At that moment, I was seen by Anl Arasu sir. He informed my father about Phoenix and expressed his desire to produce a picture with Surya. My father said, "That's his choice; let him hear the story and decide," Surya remembered. "Are you alright with that, sir?"

Only three days after hearing the narrative, Surya responded with a resounding yes. The actor thinks that the tale and the director picked him.

The film, which will be released in theaters on July 4, is directed by AK Braveman Pictures and features Devadarshini, Sampath Raj, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.
