Former businessman Vijay Mallya discussed his Kingfisher empire in his first interview in several years, including the well-known annual calendar that featured many celebrities as models. Raj Shamani's podcast discussed the meteoric rise of his calendar girls' careers after they posed for him, highlighting the reasons why Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif were the perfect choices.

In the interview, Mallya was questioned about his opinions on the careers of the models who appeared in the Kingfisher calendar. "Well, because we chose the right girls," he answered. We had all the actresses and stars from their younger days on the calendar, regardless of whether it was Katrina Kaif or Deepika Padukone. We chose the right talent, we chose well, he replied when it was noted that these models were not celebrities when they posed for him but rather rose to popularity afterwards.

The Kingfisher calendar

The Kingfisher calendar was the brainchild of photographer Atul Kasbekar. Between 2003 and 2021, he photographed it every year using a variety of Indian models from across the globe. It was designed as a Pirelli calendar for Mallya's company. Due to "social considerations of India," he confessed that they chose to produce the swimsuit editions rather than "going all the way." The models for it would be selected through an annual competition called the Kingfisher Calendar Model Hunt, currently known as Kingfisher Supermodels.

Several well-known figures, such as Deepika, Katrina, Yana Gupta, Karishma Kothak, Bruna Abdullah, Nargis Fakhri, Esha Gupta, Lisa Hayden, Saiyami Kher, Sobhita Dhulipala, Nora Fatehi, Shubra Aiyappa, and others, were calendar girls for it.

Future projects

Deepika's most recent roles were in Singham Again, Fighter, and Kalki 2898 AD in 2024. She has been brought in to play with Allu Arjun in Atlee's science fiction picture, it was revealed on Friday. In Merry Christmas 2024, Katrina was last seen. She hasn't revealed any details about her future endeavors.
