For comments he made about tribal people at the pre-release event of Retro, actor Vijay Deverakonda has gotten into difficulties because he is subject to a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The occurrence was verified by the police to PTI on Sunday.
A case has been filed against Vijay Deverakonda
Although the comments, which compared the recent terrorist incident in Pahalgam to tribal disputes from 500 years ago, were made in April, the police said that a case under the SC/ST Act was filed against the actor on June 17 in response to a complaint. "The actor made statements in April." But, according to a police officer, a case was filed against him under the SC/ST Act on June 17 in response to a complaint.
Nenavath Ashok Kumar Naik, also known as Ashok Rathod, who is the State President of the Joint Action Committee of Tribal Communities, submitted the complaint. He claimed that the pre-release event for the movie Retro, starring actor Surya, featured remarks that were extremely offensive and harmed the feelings of tribal groups. In addition, Rathod asserted that the actor's comparison of indigenous people to Pakistani terrorists was racially insensitive.
What Vijay Deverakonda said
Speaking at the pre-release event for Surya's film Retro, Vijay discussed the terror attack in Pahalgam and stated that "the solution to what is happening in Kashmir is also to educate them (terrorists) and ensure they don't get brainwashed." What will they accomplish? The people of Kashmir are ours, and India owns the territory. Indians don't even have to strike Pakistan because the people of Pakistan are so tired of their government that they would attack them if this continues. They conduct actions that are similar to those of tribes 500 years ago, acting stupidly and without the bare minimum of common sense.
Following a social media backlash over his remarks, the actor apologized. I have noticed that something I stated at the Retro audio launch event has raised alarm among some members of the community. To be perfectly clear: I never intended to harm or single out any group, especially our Scheduled Tribes, whom I hold in the highest regard and regard as a vital component of our nation.
India is one, its people are one, and the country must advance together, the actor said, reiterating that his goal was to foster harmony. He questioned the notion that, in his support for national unity, he would intentionally single out or discriminate against any group—all of whom he regards as members of his extended family.
He said in conclusion, "I sincerely apologize if any portion of my statement was misinterpreted or offensive." All I wanted to do was promote peace, progress, and unity. I will continue to use my platform to promote harmony and upliftment, not discord. Vijay Deverakonda.
