The cancer diagnosis shocked Sham Kaushal, the father of Vicky Kaushal and an action filmmaker, who said his outlook for survival is poor. He was so devastated by the news that he even contemplated suicide at one point.

Khaushal Sham discloses

In a podcast interview with Aman Aujla, Sham Kaushal stated that upon hearing the news, he considered jumping from the third floor of the hospital. He recalled a procedure he had in 2003, after which he learned he had cancer. He claimed that everyone in the hospital room appeared to be very concerned and that the doctor informed him that he would not make it.

“They told me in the evening, and at night, I had this crazy notion of jumping from the third floor of the hospital where my room was located,” Sham said. I reasoned, why not now, since I have to die anyway? But the discomfort following the procedure prevented me from moving.

Sham revealed in his hospital room that he had prayed that God would take him right then and there because he had led a good life. Sham stated that he is not afraid of dying after having that heartfelt conversation with himself.

“I conquered my fear of death after the conversation,” he said. I was optimistic the next morning that all it would take was a few operations and I'd be fine. I started to see the world differently following this event. It increased my determination. In the year that followed, they performed numerous tests and procedures. I maintained my strength. Fortunately, the cancer had not metastasized throughout my body. I had asked God to grant me 10 more years, but it has now been 22 years. My life was transformed during that time. I ran across a lot of nice people. I obtained excellent service. My children have been doing well, and I've gained life experience.

What do we know about Sham?

Sham spent several years as a stuntman before making his breakthrough in 1990 as an independent action filmmaker. He has worked in the field for more than 40 years and has worked on films in both Bollywood and Hollywood. Indrajaalam, a Malayalam film released in 1990, was his debut picture as an action director.

Sham has directed action in Bollywood movies like Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), PK (2014), Padmaavat (2018), Sanju (2018), Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), and Simmba (2018). In addition, he has contributed to international productions such as the Academy Award-winning film Slumdog Millionaire (2008).

His two kids, Vicky Kaushal and Sunny Kaushal, both work in Bollywood. Vicky is married to actress Katrina Kaif.
