Despite their high standing in Indian film, Aamir Khan and Mani Ratnam have never collaborated on a project. Despite expressing a great enthusiasm for working together, the two have not yet produced a movie. In a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Aamir disclosed that they were on the verge of working together to create a film adaptation of Ismat Chughtai's well-known short novel Gharwali.

The near-collaboration, Lajjo

As the performer stated, the film's title was inspired by the main character of the tale, Lajjo. "I have always been a huge fan of Mani Ratnam and always wanted to work with him," the superstar said, refusing to elaborate on the project's demise. I've also run into him a lot. We've had great chats at his home. We've both wanted to collaborate. We nearly collaborated in Lajjo, but it didn't happen for three reasons, none of which had anything to do with either of us.

With the disclosure that Lajjo did not perform well, the list has grown to include additional high-profile initiatives that were planned but never came to pass. However, Aamir's admiration for Mani Ratnam has remained constant. "I'm a huge fan of his work," he said. "I'm still hoping that one day, he and I will collaborate."

With Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan made a comeback.

As Aamir gets ready to make his comeback to the big screen following a three-year hiatus, the news is revealed. The superstar plays the lead in the movie Sitaare Zameen Par, which is directed by RS Prasanna. The new film is said to be a spiritual follow-up to Taare Zameen Par (2007), with Rishi Shahani, Genelia Deshmukh, Vedant Sharmaa, Naman Misra, Gopi Krishnan Varma, and Aroush Datta acting alongside the star. Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit are the producers of the movie.

Aamir's most recent movie was Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), a remake of Forrest Gump. The film, which was directed by Advait Chandan, failed to win over audiences and critics.

Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam is dealing with the fallout from his most recent film, Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan. The movie, starring Silambarasan, Trisha Krishnan, and Abhirami, has received harsh criticism. The two directors collaborated for the first time in the movie since the 1987 cult classic Nayakan.
