In Anl Arasu's action picture Phoenix, Vijay Sethupathi's son Surya Sethupathi made his acting debut. The label "nepo kid" and the reasons why Surya doesn't view it as having a negative meaning were discussed in an interview with News18. He stated as follows.

Surya revealed that he experienced 'hardships' in his childhood when Phoenix was revealed, but he also acknowledged that his father would provide him with ₹500 every day for expenses. "There's nothing wrong with calling someone a nepo kid. It implies that your father left you a legacy, right? You're going to begin anything new. Additionally, he stated that he only wants to "enjoy the art form" rather than "win" anything in film. Surya said, "I don't want to win in cinema. There is no reward in filmmaking. All I want to do is experiment with various tricks and make a ton of action films. I don't have a very ambitious objective; I simply want to take pleasure in my craft.
