In an interview, actress Surveen Chawla described one of the most difficult times in her professional life, explaining how the casting couch industry used to affect her emotionally. In a frank thought, Surveen recalled how poisonous and depressing the movie business used to be, particularly when she made the decision to defend her position and reject unwanted advances.

When Surveen Chawla hit her lowest point

"At one point, it was all about the casting couch," Surveen stated in an interview with Sidharth Kanan. It was so filthy that one couldn't even walk outside. You know, I thought to myself that I didn't want to continue with this.

The 40-year-old actor said that period was very depressing, particularly when she started to lose work because she wouldn't give in. "The casting couch was almost trending. I would lose a part every time I was brave enough to say no or defend my position in any manner, shape, or form. It was insane.

Repeated rejections and coercion drove Surveen to a breaking point, leaving her feeling overwhelmed and unsure of her position in the business, she acknowledged. She said that she felt like she had reached the end of the line and would rather lie low and give up since that wasn't her thing.

The career of Surveen Chawla

Starting her acting career in Indian television with programs like Kahiin To Hoga and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Surveen Chawla soon proved to be a promising talent.

She made the switch to movies with regional cinema, appearing in popular Punjabi films such as Dharti and Taur Mittran Di. After playing a strong part in Hate Story 2 (2014), Surveen rose to fame with her roles in films like Parched, which received critical praise.

She also displayed her versatility in digital shows like Sacred Games and Decoupled, where she received accolades for her subtle character depictions.

Both the web series Criminal Justice: A Family Matter and Rana Naidu, both launched in 2025, feature Surveen Chawla. The soon-to-be released crime thriller Mandala Murders, in which she stars alongside Vaani Kapoor, will debut on Netflix on July 25.
