In order to make his 50th birthday on July 23 memorable, a big crowd of admirers gathered outside his Chennai home to greet him in person. The actor was pictured and filmed looking overwhelmed by the outpouring of affection, and one of the videos even showed him snapping a selfie.

In a video uploaded by a fan who was outside Suriya's house on Wednesday morning, the actor, who was wearing a plain white attire, waved at the crowd and folded his hands while they yelled and cheered. The crowd was so enthusiastic that they greeted him by chanting his name, which seemed to overwhelm him.

Suriya's recent work

Etharkkum Thunindhavan was only one of the films Suriya produced since Nerrukku Ner, which marked the start of his career in 1997. He made brief appearances in Akshay Kumar's Sarfira, R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Kamal Haasan's Vikram. Theodore Francis was a bounty hunter and the main warrior in Kanguva in 2024. The film only brought in ₹106.25 crore globally on a ₹350 crore budget, and its reviews were subpar.

He appeared in Retro by Karthik Subbaraj this year. The movie received a positive critical response and generated ₹96.97 crore in revenue globally. Right now, Suriya is working on two films: one by RJ Balaji called Karuppu, in which he plays two separate roles, and one by Venky Atluri that has yet to be named, which will be his debut in Telugu.
