In 2014, Karisma and Sunjay jointly sought a divorce, but they retracted it when things became acrimonious. It only reached its conclusion in 2016. According to the news organization, Sunjay purchased ₹14 crore in bonds for both of his children, paying ₹10 lakh in interest each month. Sunjay was granted visitation rights while Karisma was awarded custody of the children. As part of the divorce, the industrialist also gave Karisma a Mumbai house that his father had owned. The Supreme Court overturned the FIR that Karisma had filed against Sunjay and her in-laws.

Sunjay Kapur in Brief

Sunjay uploaded a photo from Samaira's 18th birthday in 2023, which featured Karisma and his wife, Priya Sachdev, a former model whom he wed in 2017, indicating that things between the former couple had seemingly gotten better with time. Priya shared a son named Azarius with Sunjay and had a daughter named Safira Chatwal from a previous union with Vikram Chatwal. He married fashion designer Nandita Mahtani in 1996, and the two were together for four years.

Suhel Seth, a business consultant, told ANI following Sunjay's passing that "Sunjay died of a heart attack, apparently after swallowing a bee during a polo match in England." This statement has not been independently verified by HT. In their statement, Sona Comstar, his firm, mentioned that the cause of death was a heart attack but did not provide any more information.

After the news of Sunjay's death spread, Karisma's sister and brother-in-law, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, as well as friends like Malaika Arora, stood by her.
