Subhash Ghai on Saiyaara: "Strong Stories Win, Not Starry Budgets"
4 months ago | 5 Views
Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai has lauded Aditya Chopra and Mohit Suri for Saiyaara's tremendous success, calling it a watershed moment for Hindi commercial cinema and a lesson for an industry that is frequently dominated by celebrity power and exorbitant expenditures.
According to Subhash, Saiyaara's popularity is a clear sign from investors
Subhash praised the movie in a Sunday social media message for demonstrating that warmhearted narrative, correct casting of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, and fair production values may outweigh extravagant marketing tricks and inflated star salaries. With a new star cast, Saiyaara has become a box office phenomenon, breaking records for opening day earnings with first-time performers.
"A new star-cast film creates a wave at the box office, it sends us a clear message to investors and producers not to overspend on a film beyond what a good story needs—not to invest in main actors more than your production cost—no money spent on stars' whims—no extra spend on marketing stunts," Subhash wrote in the post.
The Taal director stated that regardless of whether the cast is composed of novices or well-known faces, the audience is more than willing to accept films that are well-made, emotionally impactful, and properly cast. "I congratulate Adi Chopra n Mohit Suri for proving the fundamental principles of film making a Hindi commercial cinema and made a film “Saiyaaira” a history today (sic)," the Taal director said.
He referred to Saiyaara as a film that has "made history today" and attributed its success to its well-chosen cast, strong direction, catchy music, and concise screenplay.
The only things that matter are a "good producer good director good story script, good music n right casting big or new stars n balance budget n well shot film." Nothing more. Best of luck to everyone. Subhash concluded his letter with "Cinema zindabad".
Concerning Saaiyaara
Mohit Suri's Saiyaara has taken the box office by storm in the first three days after its release, ranking among the top-grossing Hindi movies of 2025. Due to crowded theaters and positive word-of-mouth throughout the nation, Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's Bollywood debut has already surpassed the ₹100 crore barrier globally. Saiyara is now the eighth-highest-grossing Hindi picture of the year, and its box office adventure is just beginning; its momentum shows no signs of slowing.
