Sooraj Pancholi Claims Star Image Is a Matter of Money: ‘Everyone’s Doing It’

Despite having only two assistant director positions and four acting roles, Sooraj Pancholi has been in the industry for almost 15 years. He has seen it evolve from a tight-knit film community into a corporate business. The actor discusses these changes and how social media has impacted fame in an interview with HT.

on social media

He refers to himself as a reclusive social media user, which is uncommon for an actor of his age. "I would not have social media if it were up to me. I'm envious of the many performers who don't use social media, Sooraj says with a grin. However, he admits that it's a fantastic method to influence how others see you. "Everything may be managed by the amount you have in your bank, at least your visibility can be, and sometimes even your perception," he states, continuing, "Everybody is doing it."

Additionally, Sooraj said that he admires how young performers utilize social media and public relations to their benefit. "They are quite intelligent. I wish I had that outlook. I, like others, can do damage management, but not much more. Regarding public opinion about me, pehle kaam to karoon (first let me do some work)," he shares.

On the demise of superstardom

Since there is no longer any mystery or allure, it has frequently been argued that the rise of social media has decimated the superstar culture in movies. Sooraj concurs. "There are people who work just as hard as the celebrities. However, social media has made everything so accessible today. People would have remained celebrities even if this hadn't happened. There's no mystery now, and even if it weren't, people would still be celebrities. (Now there is no mystery). And without it, there is nothing, he claims.

The actor further states, using one of his numerous food-based metaphors, "Everything is too available." In the past, biryani was only available on Eid. It has now been reduced to 20 minutes by Swiggy and Zomato. Even if it's available, we don't want it.

In the historical drama Kesari Veer, which was not a hit at the box office, Sooraj was last seen.
