Severe flooding has devastated large parts of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, displacing thousands of people and leaving over 61,000 hectares of farmland submerged. Overflowing rivers—Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi—triggered by heavy rainfall in their upper catchment areas, have caused widespread damage across districts including Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar. The floods have not only impacted homes and farmlands but also disrupted religious pilgrimages such as the Char Dham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib, which remain suspended until September 5.

As the affected regions grapple with loss and uncertainty, actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood has once again stepped forward to help.

Sonu Sood’s Foundation on the Ground

Known for his tireless humanitarian work during the COVID-19 crisis, Sonu Sood has mobilised his team to deliver relief essentials to flood victims. His charity foundation is currently distributing food packets, clothing, shelter kits, and providing care in areas that have been severely hit.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sood shared his concern about the devastation, writing:

“Thousands have lost everything in the devastating floods across Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. Our teams are on the ground, delivering food, shelter, clothing, and care. Together, we can rebuild lives.”

His words reflect both sorrow at the scale of destruction and hope that collective humanitarian efforts can help the people rebuild their lives.

Bollywood Voices of Solidarity

Sood’s compassionate actions were echoed by Bollywood celebrities who expressed their concern and solidarity with those affected.

Alia Bhatt took to Instagram and shared, “My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the floods in Punjab. Sending prayers, love, and gratitude to the tireless frontline workers ensuring support and safety. May every family find the strength to heal and rebuild.”

Actor Vicky Kaushal too voiced his emotions on social media, writing: “Scrolling and seeing all that’s happening in Punjab… villages flooded, people suffering. Praying for everyone impacted. Rabb meher bakshe (May God bless). A heartfelt salute to those who are travelling village to village to help others. Affected areas will need long-term help. We stand together in this.”

Their words amplified the message that while government and NGO interventions are crucial, emotional strength, solidarity, and awareness from influential voices go a long way in mobilising resources and attention.

Rebuilding Lives Amid Loss

The floods have brought immense suffering to farmers, with large swathes of crops destroyed just ahead of harvest season. Many families have lost their homes and livelihoods. Relief workers emphasise that recovery requires not just immediate supplies, but long-term rehabilitation plans, including housing support, compensation for farmers, and improved flood management systems.

With Sonu Sood’s foundation already on the ground and Bollywood voices calling for unity, the crisis has found both compassion and momentum towards collective rebuilding.
