Sonakshi Sinha Responds to Release Date Conflict With Kajol’s Movie: ‘Room for Everyone’

While Kajol's Maa is a mythological horror picture, Sonakshi Sinha's Nikita Roy is a psychological thriller. Due to the release of both films in cinemas on June 27, there will be a conflict at the box office. The trailer for both movies gained attention, and viewers are eager to see how the stories develop. In response to the box office battle in advance of the releases, Sonakshi lauded Kajol.

The box office conflict between Maa and Nikita Roy, according to Sonakshi Sinha

The box office struggle between her movie Nikita Roy and Kajol's film Maa was discussed by Sonakshi Sinha in an interview with PTI. She said that it's fantastic that two movies with female protagonists are being released at the same time.

"That's like a step in the right direction, and, miraculously, it's happening. And everyone has room to fit in. We hope them well because they are distinct movies. Sonakshi described it as a fair and healthful rivalry.

Sinha also complimented Kajol, saying that she liked the trailer for Maa, which she had seen. "Kajol is an amazing actress. She's someone I've admired and looked up to. The actress said, "I can't wait to see her movie."

Sonakshi Sinha discusses portraying a powerful woman

The powerful women's stories are the main subject of interest for both Maa and Nikita Roy. Whether it be Akira, Dahaad, or Heeramandi, the actress has stated throughout the years that she has deliberately attempted to select parts that promote women. Sonakshi stated that her decisions over the previous 8–9 years have demonstrated that she wants to play powerful female roles.

"It's something that gives me joy to be able to shoulder a film and play a title role, like 'Nikita Roy’, ‘Noor’, and ‘Akira’. It's very empowering. It’s a big thing to be able to do that. I want to be the hero of my films," she added.

About Nikita Roy

Nikita Roy is a psychological thriller that promises to offer a bone-chilling glimpse into a world where the lines between reality and fiction blur. The trailer shows Sonakshi Sinha's character dealing with supernatural events including murders. 

Meanwhile, Amar Dev, played by Paresh Rawal, is a spiritual guru who helps people possessed by a supernatural force. However, Sonakshi is confident that he is a fraud and tries to uncover the truth.

Meanwhile, produced under the banner of Nicky Vicky Bhagnani Films and Nikita Pai Films Ltd., A Baweja Studio release in association with Bliss Entertainment, Movies PTE Limited, and Karmic Films, Nikita Roy casts Sonakshi Sinha, Arjun Rampal, Paresh Rawal, and Suhail Nayyar in key roles.

Nikita Roy releases in theaters on June 27. The film is directed by Sonakshi's brother Kussh Sinha.

Maa is a mythological horror film starring Kajol who plays the role of a mother who becomes a fierce protector to save her daughter from an evil spirit. Maa is directed by Vishal Furia and is part of the same universe as the film Shaitaan starring Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, and R. Madhavan. 

Meanwhile, Maa also casts Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Kherin Sharma, and Jitin Gulati. It is set to release in theaters on June 27, 2025.
