Sona Mohapatra Calls Criticism of Her Shefali Jariwala Post Misplaced
5 months ago | 5 Views
For criticizing filmmakers Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru for their work on the Kaanta Laga remix, vocalist Sona Mohapatra is receiving criticism, with many people claiming she is being disrespectful to the late actress Shefali Jariwala. In response, Sona has questioned why the attention isn't on the directors who are said to be utilizing paid PR to gain from someone's passing.
In response, Sona retaliates
In order to respond to the criticism she had received for her remarks about the song Kaanta Laga, which many thought was disrespectful to Shefali, Sona went to X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday.
"To all those who are trolling me for being insensitive, are we alright with RD, Lata, and Majrooh, who form the foundation of our musical legacy, disappearing and becoming separated from their own works?" she asked. Is it acceptable to promote yourself as the "makers" of Kaanta Laga by using inexpensive paid public relations to profit from someone's death?
"If you like beats & 'appreciate' the Shefali video, your choice of course but don't be ok with ppl calling themselves 'makers' of a song when they didn't make the song? difficult to read the paid PR post I'm criticizing?" Sona responded to one social media user. "Make more new age original songs with beats if you like beats & 'appreciate' the Shefali video, your choice of course but don't be ok with ppl calling themselves 'makers' of a song when they didn't make the song? difficult to read the paid PR post I'm criticizing?" "So millennial?"
Sona made it clear at one point that she wasn't talking about Shefali Jariwala in her essay; rather, she was venting her rage at the misuse of the musical heritage. In a post that expressed her concern that the wrong people (the producers of a remix video who were doing paid public relations) were seizing our musical legacy and not the dead, she wrote, "Interesting insight into the online world: people openly troll me on a post which was anguish about our musical legacy being usurped by the wrong people (makers of a remix video doing paid PR) & not about the deceased BUT equal no." Only private DMs contain positive messages? Why #India?
"Perhaps I'm naive enough to attempt and start a public discussion and debate about creative ownership, musical legacies, and the risks of dumbing down," Sona said. "I don't have PR companies pushing narratives about me or twisting the flow of information in my favor. After all, is stupid the new smart?"
What did Sona publish?
Following Shefali Jariwala's passing, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, the directors of the Kaanta Laga music video, declared that they have officially retired the song Kaanta Laga for good. After that, Sona posted on Instagram Story, "3 legends created KAANTA LAGA." RD Burman, Majroon Sultanpuri, Lata Mangeshkar, and this complete misplacement of people calling themselves 'makers' to "retire" in order to gain some public relations from a death, nothing less. (For the most part, Viral B is a paid service.) These two just made a filthy video featuring a remix with a 19-year-old. (Their xx interpretation doesn't require any authorization from legends, of course). Although the 42-year-old woman died, what about her legacy? And this (sic).

The singer's message caused debate, with many using Reddit to express their disapproval. A user on social media shared a screenshot of the message, which sparked a barrage of responses.
It's particularly cruel and unnecessary if Shefali's family reads it. "RIP and all to the 42-year-old woman", she is unable to pronounce her name? This woman is perpetually irritated by anything, particularly issues that are not her business. "She needs to get a life," one person remarked, and another said, "Every time I come across her name, she's complaining about something." Shefali was the quintessential Kaanta Laga girl for us 2000s youngsters. Sona lady is merely revealing her age while also dissing a deceased individual.
One remark said, "Man, why are people in this world so bitter?"
Kaanta Laga, which featured Lata Mangeshkar's voice, was taken from the 1972 movie Samadhi. Years later, in 2002, DJ Doll remixed it, and Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru directed the music video, which featured a 19-year-old Shefali Jariwala.
