Reviews of Thug Life on Twitter: The Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, and Trisha Krishnan-starring film by Mani Ratnam, titled Thug Life, was released in theaters on Thursday. On X (previously Twitter), the reviews of the movie are conflicting; some viewers adore certain aspects of it, but the majority of reviewers lament the deterioration of the second half.
The beginning of Thug Life is excellent.
Following the conclusion of the movie's first half, Latha Srinivasan, a reviewer for the posted on X, "Internal #ThugLife - Brilliant interval block and really good narrative and story build up so far. Awesome work #maniratnam #kamalhaasan #simbu. Can't wait for rest of film!"
A X user noted that the first half of Thug Life brought back memories of Nayakan or even Ran, writing, " #ThugLife The first half was well executed and respectable, and in certain respects, it brought to mind Kurosawa's #Ran and Mani's own #Nayakan. Aside from the first sequence, there was nothing noteworthy, but there was also nothing to grumble about.
“Definitely not as bad as the reviews I’ve been reading since morning,” said someone else, who claimed that the movie wasn’t ‘as bad’ as others would have you believe. In Mani Ratnam's established manner, the gangster drama has been rather good thus far. The movie got off to a good start, and for once, I've liked some of the dialogue in this gangster film more than the action, with Kamal and STR at their best. The interval block and some Trisha moments would be the drawbacks, but otherwise I'm enjoying the movie thus far!"
"A neat gangster drama so far in Mani Ratnam style," said one reviewer, praising Simbu's performance and Kamal's de-ageing. #SilambarasanTR steals the show, while Kamal Haasan shines! with de-aging and bond with young STR is Kamal's youthful appearance. There were a few slow passages, but also some nice ones.
"Haters, trollers, fakery, toxicity @ikamalhaasan has seen it all. Thug Life is a 'masterclass'," said another. #Thuglife is great because it allows common film fans like you and me to use our own cash. A master class. Stop appreciating and do it now after 10 years. Don't miss it.
“Just in awe of KH’s acting throughout the movie and STR has delivered brilliantly too, the young kid’s expressions and the entire cast has delivered!!” was another idea that AR Rahman’s music was a significant plus for the film, even if it seemed a bit out of place at times. Although the music of ARR is a major asset, there were moments when it felt a bit strange. The second half is hampered by bad writing!
In the second half, things start to fall apart.
Compared to others who seemed seriously let down by Mani and Kamal for producing a movie like Thug Life, these reviews were quite different. "#ThugLife -Monumental Disaster," one fan pleaded with Kamal to quit creating his own stories. I am still disheartened by #Indian2 because the plot is monotonous and uninteresting, even though I am a devoted follower of Aandavar. There isn't a single decent scene. Please, Aandavar, stop writing and performing your own stories.
“#ThugLife had potential but ends up dragging,” is another notion that the movie lacked Mani's characteristic zest and Kamal's "never-ending monologues," which put the audience to the test. Although Kamal Haasan gives a great performance, his persistent monologues will wear you out. Simbu does a good job with his role, but even that is insufficient to save the boring, monotonous second half. Nowhere can you find the Mani Ratnam spark?
"#ThugLife - Predictable first half turns into a half baked second half. Kamal at his best as a performer," was one notion, despite Kamal and Simbu's performance, the picture was a letdown. The climax action sequence was nailed by STR, who otherwise did a good job. The movie was saved by its immaculate music and tunes. Mani saab's direction was a bit eerie. generally speaking, it was alright.
One angry fan even referred to Thug Life as a rehash of Mirzapur and Paatal Lok: "At the end of the first half, felt the movie is a rehash & a simpler form of Mirzapur & Paatalok series.. Kamal & STR chemistry is the only thing that holds the film to some extent. #Thuglife."
“#ThugLife : The Film Starts with a Gripping Setup, but it soon devolves into a Clichéd Revenge Tale with Zero Surprises.#KamalHaasan and #SilambarasanTR was Good, but Trisha’s character felt Underwritten and largely Unnecessary. Overall, a Disappointing Experience,” one X user wrote as a summary of the picture.
In Thug Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Rohit Saraf, and Baburaj are also cast members of Life.
