Today, June 20, 2025, the much-anticipated movie Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan, debuted in theaters. The film has received a lot of coverage for its emotionally charged narrative about children with intellectual impairments, but early audiences were especially drawn to a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which appears right after the disclaimer.
The movie starts with a message from Prime Minister Modi.
The message is as follows: "In 2047, when we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Independence, our divyang friends will be seen as an inspiration to the entire world." We must be resolute in our pursuit of this objective today. Only when we create a society together where nothing is out of reach will we be able to create a genuinely inclusive and advanced India.
U/A 13+ rating granted
The quote's inclusion was not an artistic choice but rather a directive from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film received a U/A 13+ rating, as indicated in the board's Revising Committee certificate dated June 17, after five particular revisions, including the Prime Minister's insertion of this message following the disclaimer.
In its formal communication to the filmmakers, the CBFC asked that the written disclaimer be replaced by a spoken one that was 26 seconds long. Following the aforementioned statement would be Sitaare Zameen Par, which depicts a basketball coach interacting with a team of athletes who have intellectual challenges. The movie's central topic is the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities by the year 2047.
CBFC also requested edits to words
The CBFC also wanted the title "Business Person" changed from "Business Woman", the word "Kamal" (lotus) removed from the subtitle and the image, and the word "Lovebirds" used in place of Michael Jackson's name.
The official Hindi translation of the Spanish movie Campeones, starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh, was directed by R.S. Prasanna. While initial reviews of the movie have been generally positive, some have expressed concern about the CBFC's increasing involvement in inserts that are unrelated to content, while others have praised the government's inclusive approach. The Prime Minister's message has also elicited a wide range of responses.
Right now, the picture is playing in movie theaters all over the world.
