Shashi Dhiman on Comedy: Being Unapologetic Means Standing by Your Truth, Even When It’s Uncomfortable

Lately, comedian Shashi Dhiman has been in the news for first expressing her displeasure with her mother's taste in partners, then being criticized by social media users, and now for being identified as the enigma girl of the IPL. Even with the attention, Shashi is still committed to her comedy and isn't afraid to be who she is in her writing.

On finding comedy from real-life events

Shashi attempts to strike a balance between humor and sensitivity when it comes to comedy, all while dealing with real-life events and stereotypes.

"I make it a point to always treat my material with empathy and self-awareness. The goal is to hold up a mirror that is sincere and relatable, rather than to provoke or insult. Is this joke merely expressing displeasure, or does it have real worth? It usually lands with warmth rather than judgment if it originates in truth and shared experience. The comedian adds, "And yes, I generally begin by laughing at myself; it helps establish the correct mood."

After breaking free from a number of stereotypes that she encountered and finding her place in the comedy industry, Shashi has attained this status.

There's been plenty of stereotyping, ranging from claims that "you're funny for a girl" to presumptions that I must only tell "relationship jokes." However, I've come to understand that the most effective approach to combat it is by showing up, maintaining consistency, and allowing your work to speak for itself. Shashi, who was a part of Foxtale's comedic experience, explains that "with time, the narrative changes, as do the expectations." Mumbai saw No Fox Given on June 27, as comedians used their onstage jokes to tackle a number of preconceptions.

In the comedic set set in the present day, is it difficult to remain unrepentant?

"It's definitely not easy, but it's important. According to what I've learned, being unapologetic doesn't mean being irresponsible; rather, it means standing up for your beliefs, even if it makes you uncomfortable. You may be both brave and courteous," she states..

Upon being the viral enigma woman

Shashi previously established himself as the mystery girl for producing material for Punjab Kings during the 2022 IPL tournament, in addition to comedy. Till now, she has kept that tag.

"It was fantastic!" It wasn't what I was hoping for, but I'm glad I got it. However, it also made me think about how quickly things change online and how little influence we have over how people see us. I decided to approach it with humor and appreciation and to shift that focus toward anything more important, such as the tales I really want to share," she says.
