On the most fashionable night of the year, Diljit Dosanjh, an actor and singer, made a stunning entrance at the Met Gala, capturing everyone's attention with his majestic demeanor. While filming Sardaarji 3, Diljit told BBC Asian Network in an interview that he had tears in his eyes when he first imagined his Met Gala attire while sitting in his vanity vehicle. With the help of Shakira, he also told a fascinating story about how he was able to bring his kirpan to the occasion.

Diljit said that he was always certain that when he walked the carpet at the Met Gala, everyone would be focused on him. I knew that no one else would be seen if I jab main jaaunga, he remarked. Even if they hide me, when I go there, no one will be looking at anybody else. Even if they don't show me as much, when I go, no one else will be seen. I have always held the conviction that I will resemble a monarch when I die. I asked the Cartier showroom, "Will you give me that necklace?" You merely snatched it; it was ours. I was promised it then, but it was unable to be mailed since it was in an exhibition. I wept at the idea of my appearance: sporting a garment with the Punjab flag on my back and Gurmukhi text on it. For me, it was a huge idea. The turban's presence there, Punjab's presence there, was far more important than mine. I wept just from thinking about that.

Additionally, he told a humorous story about how, without realizing it, Shakira helped him bring the kirpan to the Met Gala. Diljit remembered being informed that he was not allowed to bring the kirpan to the function, so he asked for permission to at least take pictures with it backstage. But in the heat of the moment, he found himself in the car with the kirpan in his hand. He was told to give it up when he arrived, but he chose not to unless someone demanded it.

Shakira was ahead of me, and her dress featured a lot of metal pins, etc., he continued. Because she's a well-known celebrity, no one wanted to follow her, but since she was in my party, I figured it was alright. Due to all the metal on her dress, the metal detector had to beep when she was going through it, and since I was holding the Kirpan in my hand, I simply strolled through it with her. I reasoned, "If we get caught, we both will; if not, then not." The Kirpan was beneath my cloak. They inspected Shakira but not me.
