The producers have issued a statement addressing the issue, where they have defended the casting of the Pakistani actress in Diljit Dosanjh's Sardaar Ji 3, which has sparked increasing criticism and calls for the movie to be banned.
Manufacturers make a statement
The film's producers issued a statement on Tuesday defending their choice to cast Hania, stating that she was hired before the conflict between India and Pakistan intensified. Due to the current environment, they said that this was why the movie was not released in India.
"This is to kindly bring to everyone's attention that the film named Sardaarji 3 was filmed well before the current circumstances that our nation is experiencing and that no Pakistani artist was ever signed or engaged after the terrorist assault in Pahalgam," the statement that was published on social media accounts stated.
"During this delicate moment, we stand united with our nation and our fellow citizens," the note continued. For this reason, we have made the decision to hold off on releasing the film or any of its promotional material in India until the time is right.
The comments section of the piece elicited a varied response, with some social media users complimenting the filmmakers for not releasing the film and others blaming them for failing to cut out Hania's part.
Sardaar Ji 3 is in danger
Due to the inclusion of Hania Aamir in the movie, Diljit's Sardaar Ji 3's whole team is currently under fire. The movie, which also stars Neeru Bajwa, is not being released in India. On June 27, it is planned to debut internationally.
The incident occurs after India's Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistani-occupied Kashmir with airstrikes, and the recent terrorist strike on Pahalgam on April 22. The launch of Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor's movie Abir Gulaal was later delayed when the growing tension reignited the demands for a boycott of Pakistani performers. In India, the social media profiles of a number of Pakistani artists, including Hania Aamir, were banned.
