Is Rishab Shetty, a Kannada actor, solidifying his position as the face of historical and mythical films? Following the latest speculated film update from the actor-filmmaker, this is the issue that netizens have brought up. The word on the street is that Rishab will portray Sri Krishnadevaraya, the ruler of the Vijayanagara empire, in a movie that will be directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the filmmaker behind Jodhaa Akbar.

The most recent movie with historical/mythological content that Rishab has approved is this one, if it's real. After the popularity of Kantara in 2022, Rishab has only starred in its prequel, Kantara Chapter 1, which is scheduled to be released on October 2, 2025, and has formally stated that he will play Hanuman in Telugu director Prashanth Varma's Jai Hanuman and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sandeep Singh's The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Rishab has declined roles in movies like Bachelor Party and Laughing Buddha, which were originally slated for him, since the success of Kantara: Ondu dantakathe, which gave him the moniker 'Divine Star'. In addition to turning down the chance to star in Lijo Jose Pellissery's Malayalam movie Malaikottai Vaaliban, which stars Mohanlal in the lead role, the sequel to his popular crime comedy Bell Bottom, which was his debut picture as a solo lead, is also up in the air.

Rishab had stated at the time that he didn't want to produce Malaikottai Vaaliban since his priority was on making Kannada films. However, the actor had just been criticized for taking on the part of Shivaji Maharaj, and his future filmography doesn't show this. Vaghachipani, the second film by independent director Natesh Hegde, was initially a Rishab Shetty production, with rumors that Rishab would star in it. However, Anurag Kashyap took over production from him, and Malayali actor-director Dileesh Pothan was hired to play the part originally intended for Rishab.

Even though Rishab's supporters are thrilled about the majority of his new collaborations, notably the most recent one, which is about Sri Krishnadevaraya, the third monarch of the Tuluva dynasty, they are also curious as to whether they will ever see him in a "normal" role as part of a regular commercial picture. Well, time will tell.
