Following the death of her then-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, Rhea Chakraborty, an actress who was charged with abetment to suicide, has spoken about the lasting effects the case had on her and her brother, Showik Chakraborty. Rhea told CNBC TV18 in an interview how the tragedy brought both of their careers to a stop and how they had a hard time starting over.
Rhea Chakraborty discusses her lack of employment
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained Rhea and Showik in connection with a drug-related probe into Sushant's passing in 2020. "We both lost our jobs when we went through the tragedy that we went through," Rhea said when thinking back on that time. Showik was jailed before he could start his studies at a prestigious institution after earning a 96 percentile in the CAT. I was unable to find any acting jobs. He had already missed the first trimester by the time he came out, along with his future planning and MBA plans.
Showik did not get a job in the corporate sector, as Rhea Chakraborty remembers
The media frenzy that surrounded them made it almost impossible for Showik to find a job in the corporate sector, she said. "Getting a job for Showik afterwards in any corporate setup was very difficult. Nobody desired to employ someone with such a media controversy. We were unsure of the direction of our lives for a period of time. Like, what happens next? We had our healing processes.
The brothers opted to focus their attention on creating something of their own during that time of uncertainty. As a result, Chapter 2 Drip, a clothing business that aims to empower individuals and make them feel seen, was established.
On June 14, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput's body was discovered in his Mumbai residence. After his father filed a complaint, Rhea was accused of aiding in suicide and went through numerous probes by the CBI, ED, and NCB. Nonetheless, the CBI submitted a closure report in May 2024 exonerating Rhea and Showik of all accusations.
The first physical store of Chapter 2 Drip debuted in Mumbai on May 24, and Rhea also posted a sneak peek of a puja conducted there on social media. In the interim, Rhea resumed her career in entertainment last year by appearing on MTV Roadies as a gang boss, and she eventually won the season. She made a comeback to the program this year, but Elvish Yadav defeated her to win the trophy.
