Rakul Preet Singh is very close to her father, even if she isn't a huge observer of Father's Day as a notion. Rakul acknowledges that she and her father, Col (Retd) Kulwinder Singh, share personality traits and have a unique relationship. In a exclusive Father's Day interview with HT, Rakul discusses her favorite memories with her father and the most important lessons she has learned from him.

Rakul's Father's Day

Rakul discusses the importance of Father's Day, saying, "I think the joy is in celebrating your parents every day, your father every day, for the unlimited sacrifices that they have given while raising us." I don't believe that honoring them for just one day is sufficient. "It's more about the unique memories we make throughout the year."

Regarding similarities to her father

Rakul acknowledges that she resembles her father a lot. "We are both practical. I believe his army has a genetic propensity to push against the odds. "Nature-wise, we’re both equally hot-tempered, but also very driven, very disciplined, and punctual," she says.

Rakul's father was in the Indian Army, and during her childhood, he was frequently absent, sometimes in remote areas where communication was restricted. "Looking back now, I think we never experienced those nervous times, all because of my mother," she acknowledges. Rakul adds that her father and mother prevented her and her brother from becoming overwhelmed, but that they were too young to comprehend the gravity of the situation at the time. "We were just kids and too young to comprehend the seriousness of the circumstance. But they deserve credit for always making us feel differently. And also that, at a time when there were no mobile phones to regularly check in on and chat. I believe they deserve a lot of credit for maintaining such a normal atmosphere at home that we never sensed anything concerning.

During anxious moments in childhood

However, Rakul recalls moments when her mother was anxious while her father was stationed in the North-East. "I do have certain memories of one or two instances where we couldn't locate him. He was in a troubled region where a shootout was reported. I remember my mother being extremely anxious until we received confirmation that everything was alright. He served there for many years, particularly in the northeast. "That was a very tumultuous time for the family, but we were not aware of it."

Rakul further explains that her parents keep her grounded by simply being themselves, even now that she is successful. They are both unconcerned with fame or success, which is the nicest part. They are extremely pleased and helpful, but also quite unconcerned by it. "That's what really keeps me grounded."
