Madhavan shared his motivation for joining the project in a recent interview with Just Too Filmy. The actor said that he accepted the part because he wanted to represent an "age-appropriate romance," a sort of love tale that is seldom portrayed in popular movies.
"At the time I began this tale, I believed that I could write a love story for the day and age that I was. Because I was searching for a romance that was appropriate for my age group. Perhaps my last opportunity to experience romance before I have to give it up altogether. For this reason, as Madhavan put it.
In the 2001 cult film Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (RHTDM), Madhavan made his debut as Maddy, a role that is still well-known more than 20 years later. Gautam Vasudev Menon's directorial debut, Minnale, was made in Hindi as RHTDM, which became a smash with both critics and audiences.
