Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey has now charged actor-couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma with kidnapping him in Goa, physically assaulting him, and extorting money, just days after they claimed they were the victim of a financial scam. Shyam's wife, Malabika Dey, filed an FIR against the two.

Shyam stated he chose to remain in Goa for some work after his family departed, according to a Times of India article. Shyam claimed that while he was driving a rented automobile one day, a black Jaguar "came out of nowhere and forced me to a halt." Two guys then approached him and told him to exit the vehicle, but he declined. However, when he saw that Puja was present, he "let his guard down, thinking this must be a misunderstanding."

According to Shyam, he was brought to Amber Villa, where he was first placed on the first floor before being moved upstairs. He charged Kunal with assaulting him and Puja with ignoring his requests for assistance. "I spent the 1st through the 4th of June at the villa. I was not permitted to go. I made an effort to persuade Puja and Kunal every day, reminding them that we were like family and begging them to quit. However, I only encountered threats. I said to her, "Your husband is beating me, fine. But other men are thrashing me in front of you, and you're silent?" "How can this be right?" Shyam said to the Times of India.

"I'm not suggesting that the ransom they requested was payment for the kidnapping." Indeed, we conducted business transactions. However, no outstanding payments, no commercial losses can excuse this kind of insanity. Kidnapping or abduction can never be a just or legal method to resolve any issue. "There's no justification for what occurred," he continued.

The FIR was submitted against Kunal and Puja

Malabika posted a comprehensive explanation of the event on Facebook, alleging that Shyam had been subjected to both physical and mental abuse. "This incident is not just a serious crime, it is a betrayal and a breach of trust towards a friend," she stated. This incident has not only caused Shyam physical and mental abuse, but it has also inflicted profound psychological harm on our entire family. We are proceeding legally and have complete faith in the courts. "I urge all creative society members to be alert," she stated.

Malabika stated that Shyam was coerced into paying approximately ₹64 lakh under the threat of being implicated in a drug case. She stated that Shyam made a payment of ₹23 lakh, which included cash, to "Puja's assistant Munmun in Kolkata and RTGS transfer to Puja and Kunal's bank accounts." In addition, she posted images of the transaction's financial documents, WhatsApp conversations, and a copy of the FIR.

Malabika's Bengali post stated, "More horrible aspects of this incident: Puja and Kunal snatched Shyam's mobile phones, forcefully collected his personal information and passwords." In several films they made with Sham, he was compelled to state and sign a printed document stating that he had willingly stayed at Amber Villa Resort.

An FIR was also lodged against Puja and Kunal under Sections 126(2), 137(2), 140(2), 308(2), 115(2), 351(3), 61(2), and 3(5). She further stated that Shyam was effectively rescued with the assistance of the Goa Police.
