Prosenjit Chatterjee Issues Apology After Bengali Language Controversy: Calls It a Misunderstanding
4 months ago | 5 Views
Prosenjit Chatterjee, the actor who will soon be seen in Maalik, got himself into trouble for his remarks during the movie's trailer launch event a week ago. The actor's remarks to a reporter in Bengali at the gathering didn't go over well on social media, for which he was chastised. The actor has now responded to the criticism by stating that he never meant to offend or belittle the Bengali language.
Prosenjit extends his apologies
Prosenjit wrote in Bengali in a recent post on his Instagram account, "One of the statements I made during the past few days has caused a lot of controversy. I'm here to discuss it. For the past 42 years, I have been employed in Bengali. I had the chance to work at the national level during the past few years, but instead I attended the trailer launch of Maalik in Juhu PVR for a media discussion. The majority of the cast and crew members who were on stage spoke English for the most part. In Bengali, I was asked a query by a reporter from Bengal. I've known that individual for a long time. However, I thought at the moment that because so many people didn't speak Bengali, others wouldn't be able to comprehend what I was saying if I responded in that language. For this reason, I questioned the rationale for asking the question in Bengali.
I realize that many of you have been wounded by my words
The message continued, "Since the specific sentence of mine has been shared, there have been many who are hurt by it. I am also wounded, and I continue to feel the pain. Because I was caught off guard by how my words were received. Perhaps I couldn't express my point of view using specific terms in English. From there, I believe, the misunderstanding began. Since I couldn't possibly conceive of disrespecting my native tongue, not even in my worst nightmares. I speak Bengali in my daily life and in my relationships. My love and soul speak Bengali. However, until my dying day, the opinion of Bengali people has always been and will always be my top priority. Finally, I would like to express my sincere apology for the pain my words have caused so many of you. I have given you my perspective on the circumstances and the background.
In addition to Rajkummar Rao and Manushi Chillar, Prosenjit plays a key role in Maalik. On July 11, the action drama is scheduled to be released.
