A physician charged with unlawfully providing ketamine to actor Matthew Perry in the weeks leading up to the Friends star's 2023 demise has agreed to enter a guilty plea and might now face a sentence of up to 40 years.

Matthew Perry's death case has a new update.

According to Variety, prosecutors said Monday that the "lead" doctor indicted in relation to Matthew's 2023 ketamine overdose death has accepted a plea bargain.

A spokesperson for the Central District of California stated that Dr. Salvador Plasencia has consented to plead guilty to four charges of ketamine distribution. The offenses carry a potential penalty of 40 years in federal jail.

Dr. Salvador, a native of Santa Monica, California, is one of five individuals charged in connection with Matthew's death. According to the prosecutors, the ketamine that killed Matthew was distributed by an underground network of drug dealers and suppliers.

Doctor agrees to plead guilty in Matthew Perry's overdose death

Salvador Plasencia admits in the plea deal that he continuously administered ketamine without a valid medical reason in the weeks preceding to the actor's passing. Under the agreement, which was submitted Monday in Los Angeles federal court, the physician might now face a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and a $2 million penalty for four felony counts of ketamine distribution.

In a text message, co-defendant Salvador Plasencia referred to the actor as a "moron" who could be taken advantage of financially. Along with a woman charged with being a ketamine dealer, the physician had been one of the prosecution's main targets. Last year, three other defendants, one of whom was another doctor, agreed to plead guilty in return for their assistance.

Between September 30 and October 12, 2023, Salvador Plasencia gave Matthew and Kenneth Iwamasa, the actor's live-in assistant, 20 vials of ketamine, ketamine lozenges, and ketamine syringes, according to Plasencia's plea deal, which was submitted on Monday and cited by ABC News.

Furthermore, Salvador Plasencia "admits that his conduct fell below the proper standard of medical care and that transfers of ketamine vials to Defendant Iwamasa and Victim M.P. were not for a legitimate medical purpose." Salvador Plasencia administered ketamine to Matthew in a parking lot after visiting the actor's house to give him the injection.

Concerning the passing of Matthew Perry

Matthew passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 in his Los Angeles house. Toxicology reports showed that his death was caused by acute ketamine effects, drowning, and coronary artery disease. After his death, the DEA and LAPD launched an inquiry into the drugs involved, leading to numerous arrests, including that of a known drug supplier and Matthew's assistant.

Keith Morrison, Matthew's stepfather, disclosed in a recent edition of People that the actor's "dying wish" was for people to remember him "for helping other people, more than his famousness for Friends." "Our mission in life now is to fulfill that desire," is what that has now turned into.
