With relation to the wage disparity between writers and artists, Varun Grover has made a stunning discovery. Grover, who is well-known for his works like Masaan and Superboys of Malegaon, had been in the news because of Homebound. However, he has lately made headlines for exposing the wage gap between a TV host and a writer. He gave the case of Farhan Akhtar as an illustration of why he quit working in the field.

Varun Grover implies that he gave up on television after realizing how significant the pay difference was between authors and television presenters.

Until one day, Varun Grover was actively writing for television programs, but then he gave up. This occurred while I was collaborating with Farhan Akhtar on Oye! It's Friday! The author revealed in his interview with The Lallantop, "Once I learned about it – maybe it’s false information and somebody told me this only to provoke me; I can’t say for sure – I realized the gap was huge. While I only made ₹45,000, he (Farhan Akhtar) was getting paid ₹45 lakh every episode.

With the short film KISS, Varun Grover makes his debut as a director. Ahead of its OTT debut, the film has been making the rounds of Film Festivals and is now back in the headlines.

KISS is set to launch on MUBI in the near future. Grover told OTTplay that the film was based on an article that recommended the Censor Board cut out kissing scenes based on the number of seconds. "Either they are not okay with the kissing scene, and they can say, remove all of it, but to reduce the duration of it felt bizarre. That made me think, and I decided that I should write about it, but not in a humorous way. The writer of his short film recalled that his motivation was to comprehend the origins of this sort of thought and to take a somewhat sympathetic approach to it and to the people who can distinguish between good and bad. His perspective was either analytical or compassionate.
