Prime Minister Narendra Modi lamented the passing of seasoned actress B Saroj Devi on Monday. PM Modi discussed her six-decade career in Indian film on X, previously known as Twitter. She will be remembered as a "exemplary icon" of Indian cinema and culture, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Monday, at the age of 87, she passed away in Bengaluru.

In his speech, Prime Minister Modi discussed Saroja Devi's roles in films that were made in many languages and covered a variety of topics. PM Modi expressed his sadness at the death of the well-known film figure, B Saroja Devi Ji, in a tweet, saying, "She will be remembered as an exemplary icon of Indian cinema and culture."

"Her varied performances had a lasting impression on audiences of all ages. Her versatility was evident in her works, which covered a wide range of subjects and languages. My condolences to her loved ones and followers. Om Shanti," he said.

About the career of Saroja Devi

She starred in more than 200 movies in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Sinhala due to her versatility and variety. With the Kannada movie Mahakavi Kalidasa, Saroja Devi made her acting debut in 1955 at the age of seventeen. Her performances in many languages, alongside renowned performers such as NT Rama Rao, Sivaji Ganesan, and MG Ramachandran, propelled her to stardom.

She appeared in a number of hit films, starting with Pandurang Mahathyam in 1957, which marked her Telugu film debut, until the late 1970s. She rose to fame as one of the leading actresses in Tamil movies with her performance in Nadodi Mannan (1958).

She was still the second most popular actress in Tamil cinema between 1967 and 1974, when she got married. From 1958 through 1980, she remained one of the leading actresses in Telugu and Kannada films. From Paigham (1959) until the middle of the 1960s, she also starred in Hindi movies. Between 1955 and 1984, she played the female lead in 161 straight films.

Honoring Saroja Devi

The Padma Bhushan was given to Saroja Devi in 1992, while the Padma Shri was given to her in 1969. The Kalaimamani Award of Tamil Nadu and an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University were also given to her. In 2008, she was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
