Nitesh Tiwari Casts 25+ Stars, Including Amitabh & Anil, for Ranbir-Yash’s Ramayana

The first teaser announcement for the highly anticipated two-part epic Ramayana was unveiled by Nitesh Tiwari on July 3, providing viewers with an idea of the emotional and visual scope of the masterpiece. The little over three-minute trailer proved what many had suspected: that the filmmaker has a lofty yet realistic vision for the mythological story.
Glimpses of Rama and Ravana tease a cinematic spectacle
Without giving too much away, the teaser presented a restricted look at Lord Rama (Ranbir Kapoor) and Ravana (Yash), the protagonists and antagonists of the plot. Despite this, the grandiosity and tone were immediately apparent: this is an aesthetically stunning film that pays homage to the epic it is based on.
While most people are familiar with the core cast—Ranbir as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman—Mid-Day has reported that director Tiwari has assembled a larger ensemble of over 25 actors from across the nation.
Amitabh Bachchan lends voice to the heroic Jatayu
One of the most interesting details is that superstar Amitabh Bachchan will provide the voice for Jatayu, the divine vulture who heroically tries to prevent Ravana from abducting Sita and who goes on to save Rama and Lakshman before his demise. With Bachchan on board, the already moving scene is sure to take on even more weight.
The part of Lord Indra will be played by Kunal Kapoor, while Indira Krishnan, a seasoned actor in both film and television, will portray Kaushalya, Rama's mother.
Hand-picked ensemble cast
According to an insider, the casting process was very methodical and thorough. They told the tabloid that the cast has been hand-picked by Tiwari, who has taken into account physical similarity, the actors' range of expression, and the dramatic weight they provide to the roles. Mohit Raina, Adinath Kothare, Kajal Aggarwal, Vivek Oberoi, Vikrant Massey, and Anil Kapoor are also part of the cast. The makers sought to cast the most qualified actors for each part; therefore, they cast them from all over the acting spectrum.
The film is one of the most ambitious mythological retellings that Indian cinema has attempted thus far, and it is presented as a two-part epic. With successes like Dangal and Chhichhore under his belt, Tiwari seems proficient in fusing theatrical flair with authentic storytelling.
