Although Nimrat Kaur is now well-known as an actress, there was a period in her career when she performed in plays and advertisements while attempting to make it in Bollywood. Before getting her role in The Lunchbox, she told Indian Express in an interview that she was concerned about her next paycheck.
Nimrat Kaur's difficulties prior to The Lunchbox
After arriving in Mumbai, Nimrat remembered working for two to three months in music videos and several commercial films. Additionally, she mentioned performing in theater for four to five years. “I would occasionally be concerned about where my next paycheck would come from?” Do I have what it takes? Should I go back? Do I have a following in my field? Prior to The Lunchbox, I was at a loss as to what I would do in the future.
She also remembered a period when her bank balance was so little that she questioned if she could continue living in the city. "There was a time when my bank account had really fallen low while I was doing theater. It was quite unclear where the funds would originate. Being in such a state of dread, going back home is a different kind of humiliation. I had days where I was really depressed, down, and things were quite tough and hard. "I would sob, feel lonely, but there was a voice inside me that said, don't give up," said Nimrat.
