In response to continued inquiries about the production cost of Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming epic tale, Ramayana, producer Namit Malhotra has made a statement. The two-part film would exceed ₹4000 crore (approximately 500 million USD) in total production expenditures, making it the most expensive Indian film ever made, according to Malhotra, who lately appeared on Prakhar Gupta's podcast.
India's priciest movie to date
"Budget-wise, it was like...everyone thought I was a lunatic because no Indian film comes close to it," Malhotra said. "To put it simply, by the time we are done on both films put together—Part One and Part Two—it will be like $500 million, which is over Rs 4000 crores."
As the prime focus and DNEG CEO, Malhotra saw the Ramayana as a labor of love and a unique opportunity to introduce the Indian epic to a global audience in a way that had never been done before.
He said this when discussing how they were creating the largest picture ever for the greatest narrative that everyone should see.
The expenses are compared by Namit Malhotra with those in Hollywood
Despite the enormous sum, Malhotra maintained that compared to other big Hollywood movies, it was still inexpensive. And I still believe that it costs less than many of the major Hollywood productions. As a result, I believe that we are producing a larger movie at a lesser price. Frankly, I don't do it for the money," he said.
The famous Indian epic Ramayana is turned into a two-part movie by the well-known director Nitesh Tiwari, who is best known for his work on Dangal and Chhichhore. The movie features Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, and Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. In addition to a big cast of supporting performers, the picture also features roles that have not been made public.
International music collaboration
The movie's soundtrack was written in partnership by two well-known musicians, Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. The movie's producers are rumored to be in negotiations with a major Hollywood company over the rights to distribute it worldwide.
With the large budget and the caliber of talent involved, the Ramayana seems to be one of the most ambitious film projects ever produced by Indian cinema.
