The motivation behind bringing India's greatest epic, the Ramayana, to life on a scale that the world has never seen was revealed by producer Namit Malhotra. The movie, which is directed by Nitesh Tiwari, features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Raavan.
Namit is on the scale of the Ramayana
In a candid interview with Prakhar Gupta on a podcast, Namit revealed that his ambition to build something as spectacular as Jurassic Park was ignited by his early love for movies. "I was amazed when Jurassic Park was first released. I felt compelled to become a filmmaker and create worlds after seeing such a large and engaging piece of work.
However, the recent strike by Hollywood authors gave Namit the chance to reflect on not only his own career but also on how Indian stories have been portrayed around the world.
"When I examined the sort of Indian stories that had made it worldwide—Slumdog Millionaire, Gandhi, Lion, and even RRR, which is a fantastic example of (SS) Rajamouli's achievement of producing a film that, for the first time, appealed to Hollywood—I realized that the majority of them portrayed us as victims. We were underprivileged and impoverished all the time. I responded, "That's not who we are." My fundamental vitality and strength are derived from somewhere else. For me, that tale became the Ramayana. How can I use this to show that the planet is evolving into the first civilization in the world, which is also the best in the world? Namit asked.
Regarding Namit Malhotra
For many years, Namit Malhotra has been a force to be reckoned with in the background of the film industry worldwide. His businesses, Prime Focus and DNEG, have created the visual effects for a number of Hollywood hits, including Dune, Oppenheimer, Inception, Interstellar, and many others, winning several Academy Awards in the process. However, Namit is seizing the artistic spotlight with Ramayana, with the goal of not just sharing India's story to the globe but also changing the way the world views Indian film.
All About the Ramayana
The Ramayana is slated to be a two-part film epic, with Part 1 coming out on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 following in 2027.
