For actress Mrunal Thakur, this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations were extra special. Her family welcomed Lord Ganesha into their home for the 62nd consecutive year, a tradition that has been lovingly upheld for decades across different states of India. What makes the festival significant for Mrunal is not only its spiritual essence but also the beautiful way it ties her family together, no matter where life takes them.

Originally from Dhule, Mrunal recalls her childhood celebrations fondly — her sister decorating their home, her mother frying modaks, and her own role in preparing the sweet khirapat filling. South Meets Maharashtra: A Cultural Fusion in Her Look

For this year’s celebration, Mrunal stunned in a regal paithani saree, accessorised with traditional jewels. Adding a personal touch, she wore a nath gifted by her grandfather (ajoba), which holds both sentimental and cultural value. “It’s a South meets Maharashtra look,” she explained, pointing at her unique jewellery styling. Having built a strong career in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema, Mrunal’s attire beautifully mirrored her cultural journey while honouring her roots.

The aroma of authentic Maharashtrian delicacies, from steaming hot modaks to festive savouries, further elevated the festive atmosphere in her home.

Choosing Family Time Over Work Commitments

In an industry as demanding as cinema, festivals often get overshadowed by busy schedules. However, this year, Mrunal made a conscious decision to stay home during Ganesh Chaturthi. She welcomed school friends she had reconnected with after years, planned outfits for her entire family, including her mother, and even indulged in her photography passion by capturing these cherished memories to create a family photo album.

For Mrunal, these simple acts of involvement made the festival more meaningful than any professional achievement. “These are the most beautiful days of the year because the entire family comes together under one roof,” she shared.

Dreams of a Grand Ganpati Song on Screen

While she may have celebrated at home with intimacy and tradition, Mrunal expressed her Bollywood dream linked to the festival. Having performed smaller Ganpati-related sequences in films like Toofaan, she now aspires to be part of a grand cinematic moment. “I dream of playing a role where the girl goes to Lalbaugcha Raja, performs lejhim, and participates in a big Ganpati song. I would love to see myself on the big screen in something massive like Deva Shree Ganesha,” she said, her eyes gleaming with hope.

For Mrunal Thakur, Ganesh Chaturthi is not just a festival but an emotion—a time of prayer, family bonding, and cultural pride. As her family marked 62 glorious years of welcoming Bappa, she reminded fans that celebrations are most meaningful when they bring people together.
