Veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee has recently been in the news for speaking openly about her experiences in the Hindi film industry. Moushumi said in a recent interview that, throughout her two-plus decades in the industry, she has consistently fought for her principles and upheld her personal boundaries.

'I felt as if I had become naked'

Not dressing in short, revealing attire was one of those values. At the age of 16, Moushumi began her career in the film industry, after marrying Jayanta Mukherjee. Moushumi stated in an interview with Filmfare that she had made up her mind that she would only wear sarees during her early days in the film industry.

Moushumi described the attire that startled her while she was working on Raj Khosla's 1973 film Kucche Dhaage, which also featured Vinod Khanna and Kabir Bedi.

She said that Mani J Rabadi gave her a backless shirt with only strings and a little ghaghra, which made her weep. "The sight of those garments made me feel naked." I wept and begged my husband to bring me back to Calcutta over the phone. I'd rather not work here. They have confiscated all of my attire. I finished the movie after he rushed up and told me it was okay.

In addition, Moushumi revealed that she turned down Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Guddi because she was required to wear a short skirt in it. Later, Jaya Bachchan acquired the movie, and it became a cult classic.

Moushumi's most recent endeavors

With the Bengali movie Aarii, Moushumi made her comeback to the big screen after a break. The movie, which was written and directed by Jiit Chakraborty, examines the sacrifices and emotional connection between a bereaved mother and the son who cares for her. On April 25, the movie, which also stars Nusrat Jahan and Yash Dasgupta, was released in theaters. Piku, her final film with Amitabh Bachchan, was also re-released in theaters on May 9.
