Social media personality Orhan Awatramani, widely known as Orry, found himself under intense scrutiny after appearing before the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) for questioning in a major narcotics case. Following a marathon session lasting nearly 7.5 hours, reports suggest the influencer denied all allegations of drug consumption or involvement, famously claiming he only attends high-profile parties “for photos.”

However, with sources indicating a lack of full cooperation from the influencer, and investigators now scrutinising his financial history and international travel, the question is: is this just a routine celebrity inquiry, or the first thread in a much larger, complex investigation?

The Denial: ‘I Only Attend Parties for Photos’

Orry’s name reportedly emerged during the interrogation of a key accused, a trafficker linked to a significant mephedrone seizure case, who allegedly organized lavish parties in India and abroad for celebrities and high-profile figures.

During his questioning, Orry reportedly took a firm stance:

• He denied consuming any illegal substances.

• He claimed he did not know the main accused in the drug supply chain.

• He insisted that his primary role at these numerous gatherings, both local and international, was simply to pose with celebrities, a practice he suggested was mutually beneficial and which he was reportedly compensated for.

• He claimed his inability to recall precise details of attendees or events was due to the sheer number of parties he attends globally.

While these denials are a typical defense in such probes, sources close to the ANC revealed dissatisfaction with his responses, noting a distinct lack of cooperation.

Why Investigators May Summon Him Again

If Orry consistently denies any direct involvement or knowledge of the illicit activities, why would the investigators consider issuing another summon? The answer lies in the gaps of his testimony and the nature of the wider case:

1. Corroboration Gap: Investigators must verify his claim of being present only for pictures. His repeated inability to recall key attendees or events may be viewed not as forgetfulness, but as a deliberate attempt to withhold information relevant to the broader drug network.

2. Unsatisfactory Responses: The ANC is reportedly unsatisfied with the clarity and detail of his answers. In complex cases, vague responses can signal a reluctance to assist the investigation, prompting the police to re-interview the person with more targeted questions.

3. Cross-Verification: His statements must be cross-verified against the testimony of the arrested accused and other individuals being questioned in the case. Any discrepancies—even minor ones—could lead to a second round of grilling to establish the truth. 

Crucially, the probe is now moving beyond the scope of mere party attendance. Investigators have reportedly begun to examine his financial details, his pattern of foreign trips, and his professional and social connections.

This is the most telling sign that the investigation is expanding. Financial scrutiny, particularly cross-checking his expenditure and travel history against the timeline and locations of the alleged drug-related parties, suggests a probe into money trails or possible links to the syndicate's operations. The scrutiny over his frequent international travel, especially to certain destinations like Dubai, aligns with the accused's alleged base of operations.

In essence, the police are attempting to peel back the layers of the public persona to ascertain if the celebrity socialite is merely a high-profile photo prop, or an unwitting—or even witting—participant in a larger criminal network. This current line of inquiry suggests that for Orry, the consequences of this high-stakes probe are just beginning to unfold.
