Mohit Suri has had a long and illustrious career as a director. He has produced successful films in a variety of genres, including Zeher, Murder 2, Aashiqui 2, and Ek Villain, during his two decades as a filmmaker. However, many supporters consider the 2007 Emraan Hashmi film Awarapan to be his best effort. Although the movie now has a devoted fan base, it was a flop when it first came out, which is fascinating.

Mohit Suri's opinion on Awarapan

Perhaps "failure" is not the right term to use. When we ask Mohit about the perceived failure of Awarapan, he tells HT in an exclusive interview, "Nothing fails," as he himself puts it. While they are working on a sequel to that movie, we are now sitting and chatting. Any excellent endeavor will succeed. Referring to the sequel, which was just announced, the director said, "I went out to make a good film, not a hit film."

Having a successful box office attracts additional employment

Mohit says, "Everyone has a validation they crave," while discussing validation via box office figures and public response. I want to create a great movie and be well-liked. Numbers can never be overcome. A decent movie lasts longer, which is to be expected. The director, however, includes a caveat: a hit at the box office leads to new prospects. "But yes, a hit movie at the box office gives you the chance to produce more. I adore what I do, and it's crucial to succeed so that I can do it again, Mohit said.

"I was after a figure"

The filmmaker considers receiving unfavorable criticism in the opposite way: his flicks not resonating with viewers. He confesses that he was seeking a figure at the box office during that period, which he now regrets. At that point, I was informed by my good friend, (director) Tushar Hiranandani, that he missed the Mohit from Aashiqui (2), who was only creating a movie for the pleasure of it. And, as he put it, "Yes, I was chasing a number, and I don't want to do that."

With his upcoming movie, Saiyaara, Mohit is now going back to the love genre. Saiyara, which stars novices Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, was produced by Akshaye Widhani under the Yash Raj Films banner. Its theatrical debut is scheduled for July 18.
